This is it. The final round of the Swiss, with the winner of this match likely making the Top 8 while the loser has to console himself with a lower money finish. Sebastian has seen the Top 8 at a $10K before, having fallen to Dean Sohnle’s Fantastic Fun at $10K Amsterdam before it was even cool to do so. After a 1-2 start, Sebastian has been battling since round four, and he needs just one more win to break through.
Dennis led off with the initiative and Boris, Personal Servant of Dr. Doom. The old man was made to feel a little silly in the face of Roy Harper ◊ Speedy, a young whippersnapper who could prove to be a major threat to the Doom side of the board.
For turn one, Tamaran allowed Roy to do a little early damage, and on turn two, Sebastian looked to press home the early advantage he had with an unboosted Hank Hall ◊ Hawk. Rashke had Micro-Chip and used Millennium to team up, after using Dagger, Child of Light to find Midnight Sons. Boris got attacked and hit Finishing Move, then Speedy took down Micro-Chip. It was quite the beating.
For turn three, Sebastian’s draw continued to be powerful with Tim Drake ◊ Robin, Young Detective and Dawn Granger ◊ Dove, to a single Robot Sentry (called Wachroboter in German) and another Millennium on the other side of the board.
The beatings continued on turn four when Terra came to town. She quickly got busy, taking down the Sentry in response to Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius. The rest of the Titan team beat up the Doctor himself, and Press the Attack before the attack resolved allowed Terra to go directly to the face.
For turn five, Dennis recruited Glorious Godfrey and passed.
“Mein draw ist nicht schlecht,” remarked Müller at with a smirk. The translation is, My draw is not bad. The chirpy German plopped Red Star onto his Onslaught playmat and used his remaining resource point to burn his opponent down to 19.
Dr Doom attacked into Tim Drake to take down the troublesome 2-drop, and then passed with Godfrey still ready, even if not able to use his ability. He gained the power in short order, with Midnight Sons teaming up Darkseid’s Elite and allowing the 4-drop to neutralise Red Star before succumbing to the team.
Müller tried for Teen Titans Go! to ready much of his board, but it was met with Fizzle from Dennis. Of course, with a draw like Müller’s, this was not a problem. He simply flipped another copy of the powerful plot twist (extended art, no less), and went in for the kill.
He couldn’t literally get the kill on turn five, but it was not long in coming on the following turn, when he played Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal, Sharpshooter. Rashke simply looked at his score pad and his board, and extended his hand.
Sebastian Müller wins!
