Both of these players are undefeated going into the fifth round. Angel is from the area, and Kory is a young pro who made the drive from Indianapolis, of all places. Kory won the die roll and selected to take the even initiatives. Both players mulliganed their opening hands, and Kory unleashed a string of profanity as he surveyed its replacement. Neither player had a play for the first turn. Kory whiffed on turn 2 as well, but Angel had Kelex. He discarded two Brotherhood characters to get Lost City and attacked for 3. At the end of his turn, Angel flipped and used an Avalon Space Station, gaining some card advantage.
Angel missed completely on turn 3, while Kory had his first recruit in the form of Lex Luthor, Nefarious Philanthropist. Kelex attacked Lex, powering-up twice. Before the attack resolved, Kory played Secret Origins. Angel searched out Mystique, Freedom Force, while Kory fetched Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius. Lex was stunned. Angel led the endurance race 50-45.
On turn 4, Kory recruited Dr. Doom. With his effect on the chain, he flipped Gang-Up, teaming-up Doom and Injustice Gang. Kory flipped down Secret Files and then used Reign of Terror to get Kelex off the board. He set up with Lex in front of Doom, and then passed. Angel recruited Sabretooth, Feral Rage with Nth Metal, and passed. Kory declared a team attack, and Angel flipped Lost City before allowing it. He played Insignificant Threat from his resource row to attempt to stun Lex. The 3-drop went down, and Doom was brick-walled by the 14 ATK / 10 DEF Sabretooth. Angel used his Avalon and a Slaughter Swamp in recovery to keep his Kelexes in his KO’d pile and his other characters in his hand. Kory lost Lex, and Angel led 50-38.
Turn 5 was Angel’s initiative, and he recruited Quicksilver, Speed Demon. Kory replayed Secret Origins for Scarecrow, Psycho Psychologist. Predictably, Angel fetched a power-up. Kory set up with Doom in front of Scarecrow and passed. In combat, Kory paid 3 to nuke Angel for 12. Mystical Paralysis shut down Quicksilver, but Angel simply readied him. Quicksilver stunned Dr. Doom, who was reinforced, and Sabretooth crushed Scarecrow. In recovery, Doom was KO’d, and Angel led 38-21.
Kory had Ocean Master for his 6-drop, and hid him behind Scarecrow. Angel played his Mystique, Freedom Force and left all of his characters in the front row. Before combat, Angel played Flame Trap to get some cards out of his hand, but he was still burned for 9 with Scarecrow. Kory attacked Quicksilver with Scarecrow and was brick-walled. Kory, realizing the game was out of his grasp, conceded.
Angel Luna wins!
