Jelger Weigersma and Bulk Lao sat down trying to salvage a 2-1 record in the only Avengers draft of the day. Jelger hails from The Netherlands, although he spent a good deal of time testing with Gabe Walls and Co. in Indianapolis. Bulk Lao is from California and is most associated with Team Realmworx.
Bulk won the option and selected the odd initiative. Bulk kept his hand, while Jelger sent his back. Bulk came out of the gates fast on the first two turns with Doctor Decibel in the concealed area and Nathan Garrett ◊ Black Knight, in contrast to Jelger, who passed both turns with no play.
Bulk kept the heat on with a third turn Tiger Shark, while Jelger finally got on the board with Helmut Zemo ◊ Citizen V, Tactician. Bulk attacked Zemo with his Shark, forcing the double stun, then came through with a direct attack for 4 additional points of endurance loss.
Jelger under-dropped significantly on the fourth turn, recruiting only Jarvis. Bulk responded by recruiting Whirlwind. Jelger started combat by making two trades—Jarvis with Black Knight and Helmut Zemo with Tiger Shark. Bulk tried to declare a direct attack with his remaining characters, but Jelger flipped A Second Chance, recovering Helmut. Bulk attacked Helmut with Whirlwind, but Jelger had two power-ups, trying to force a double stun and get back into the game. Bulk flipped Shrink targeting Whirlwind and tried to use Doctor Decibel on Helmut, but he couldn’t because the Doctor was hidden. Still, the Shrink negated the attack, and Jelger and Bulk lost their one-drops during recovery.
Bulk added Charcoal to his side on turn 5 and equipped him with Thunder Jet. Jelger had Paul Ebersol ◊ Techno, Man of Metal, returning a Helmut power-up to his hand. Bulk sent Charcoal after Techno, forcing a stun and dealing 3 extra breakthrough. He then attacked Helmut with Tiger Shark, forcing another trade. The rest of his team attacked Jelger directly, dropping him to 9 endurance. Bulk’s turn six Vision, placed in the concealed area, ensured that Jelger wouldn’t deal enough damage to Bulk or stun his 6-drop. Jelger had no way to recover from his poor draw and conceded the match.
Bulk Lao wins.
