Both players were 2-0, and as this was the last round of the first Sealed Pack, both players were hoping to finish with a perfect record. Benzie is a Singaporean who made the semifinals at $10K Singapore, while Grey is Malaysian.
Grey won the die roll and chose the odd initiatives. Neither player mulliganed.
Turn 1: Benzie managed to recruit Ted Kord ◊ Blue Beetle, while Grey failed to find a character. Endurance: Gary 48, Benzie 50.
Turn 2: Benzie activated Ted to look for Booster Gold, which he recruited. Grey had Captain Boomerang, “Digger”. Benzie formed Booster Gold in front of Ted Kord. Booster swung into the Captain, but Grey had a power-up to save his own character while stunning Benzie’s. In the counterattack, Ted went down and out into the KO’d pile. Endurance: Grey 48, Benzie 45.
Turn 3: Both players had Captain Cold. While Grey had both characters in his front row, Benzie protected Booster Gold with Captain Cold. Grey swung Captain Boomerang into Captain Cold with the support of a flipped Rallying Cry! to force the mutual stun. Captain Cold then swung down and stunned Booster Gold. Benzie lost Booster Gold. Endurance: Grey 46, Benzie 37.
Turn 4: Benzie recruited Henry King ◊ Brainwave, Sinister Psionic and formed him behind Captain Cold. Grey recruited The Joker, Headline Stealer. He formed with Joker protecting Captain Boomerang, who was also beside Captain Cold. Benzie swung Captain Cold into his doppelganger for a double stun. Next, Henry King attacked The Joker. Benzie KO’d Captain Cold to Henry’s ability before the two characters stunned. Grey was left with a clear path through to Benzie when the initiative passed to him. He chose to KO Captain Cold in the recovery phase. Endurance: Grey 35, Benzie 27.
Turn 5: Grey brought Crystal Frost ◊ Killer Frost, Cold-Hearted Killer into play, and Benzie mirrored. Grey chose to go with an “L” formation with Captain Boomerang being focal point, and The Joker in front. Benzie had Crystal Frost protecting Henry King. Joker swung into Crystal Frost, and Grey flipped All Too Easy to force the double stun. Benzie reinforced. Crystal Frost next hit down and stunned Henry. Once again, Captain Boomerang had a clear shot at Benzie. Henry left the field. Endurance: Grey 31, Benzie 16.
Turn 6: Benzie played Metamorpho in front of Crystal Frost and Grey under-dropped with Scarecrow, Fearmonger. Crystal Frost attacked Scarecrow and Benzie flipped Glass Jaw to force the stun. Grey had a power-up to attempt a mutual stun; however, Benzie was able to counter with Plasma Blast. Using the ability of his own Crystal Frost, Grey removed three cards from his KO’d pile to prevent Benzie’s Crystal Frost from readying this turn. Next, Crystal Frost reinforced her teammate before Scarecrow stunned. Benzie then swung Metamorpho down into Crystal Frost and remained at 12 ATK/12 DEF. Crystal Frost stunned and left the field at recovery. Endurance: Grey 21, Benzie 16.
Turn 7: Grey recruited Libra and formed in a “T”, with Libra flanked by Scarecrow and Joker. Benzie had Captain Marvel once more, which he formed in front of Metamorpho. The exhausted Crystal Frost remained beside Metamorpho.
In combat, Grey flipped Justice League of Arkham to team up SS and IG. All of Grey’s characters save Libra swung into Captain Marvel, and Grey removed the token from Captain Boomerang to make Benzie lose two endurance. Scarecrow and Captain Marvel stunned. Next, Libra attacked Metamorpho, and Benzie chose to make Metamorpho 10 ATK/14 DEF. Grey flipped Lead by Example, but a judge following the game ruled that the second ability was a replacement, so it would not adjust his character’s statistics. However, this allowed Benzie to play Balance of Power. The attack concluded with neither character stunning. and Gary KO’d all of his remaining characters for Libra to have another shot at Metamorpho. Benzie had no more outs and scooped. |
