The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Yu Kids on the Block: Dave Adams
Julia Birks

Dave Adams is a relatively new convert to Vs, having clocked in for the first time at the Brisbane $10K, just weeks after learning to play. He took his X-Men Energy Burn deck to moderate success, and has proved that Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG guys are a force to be reckoned with. Dave is also a solid drafter in his home town of Brisbane, where he rocks casual players and seasoned pros alike with his unusual, and oft-experimental deckbuilding style. Dave’s currently on 5 PC points, and is one of the players we’d love to see at the Sydney PC next year.

As a former YGO player, what’s been the biggest difference between the 2 games?

What is the same between the two games?!! The hardest part of the game for me is chaining. It’s complex in Yu-Gi-Oh!, but not like it is in Vs.

What card would you bring from Yu-Gi-Oh! into Vs if you could?

Return from the Different Dimension. So far, Vs has no way of accessing cards that have been removed from the game. In Yu-Gi-Oh!, the removed-from-play pile still has relevance for the game. Cards like Mephisto would be awesome if I could then recruit from the out of play pile!

Alex Antonios’ hairdo. What's your take on that, and would you consider wearing your hair in a similar fashion?

A trend-setter in the Australian meta, but not fashion. Maybe it’s a Samson thing; cut the hair and he loses all his playing ability.

Best deck in Silver Age at the moment?

Kree is the best deck. It’s forgiving of bad draws and mistakes. It’s very strong, and an early finisher. Any deck that wins fast is good as it allows you to get some food in between matches!

Best deck you've ever built?

In Vs: Energy burn

Yu-Gi-Oh!: Creator deck or Spin Doctor deck. I like decks that are fun to play.

Best player you've ever played against?

Vs: Dave Redfern

Yu-Gi-Oh!: Chris Dawson

Most fun game you've ever played?

I love Vs for its complexity and variety. I like Yu-Gi-Oh! for its consistency and ability to come out with completely left-field decks. As for individual games . . .  there’s a couple of really good ones, but most of the fun I have is during draft! I really love just drafting, especially when I get to play Dave Redfern. I’ve never beaten him, so any opportunity to have a go is pretty good.

What are you looking for in Legions?

Mobilize. I can't wait to make X-Men playable.

Best dressed Vs player?

Rob Davis (The illustrious Metagame reporter?! Surely not!)

Favorite Vs card? Why?

Any Wolverine card. I love this game for the characters.

What are your thoughts on PC Sydney? Are you qualified? Can an Australasian player win it?

I'm not qualified, but I am trying to get my points for it. PC Sydney is going to be very good for the game in Australia. I'm looking forward to seeing and meeting some of my favorite players, and I’m looking forward to the new decks and ideas. I think if (fellow-Brisbanite) Early Nguyen took some time to prepare for the PC instead of just showing up and playing whatever, he could win it all (instead of just doing really, really well).

Who and what deck is going to win this thing?

PC? New deck will take it. Don't know what the format is, but PCs see such new ideas and creativity, and people always pull out something special. I loved the TDC stall that was seen at the Golden Age Los Angeles PC.

Sydney $10K? I'm not sure; I just hope its something completely left of field. I have a feeling that G’Lock might be worth a look in.
