Doug sat at table 2 of Draft 1 with some of his Donkey Club teammates—Adam Prosak, Adam Bernstein, and Karl Horn—so to say that this was a powerhouse draft pod is putting it lightly. When it comes to drafting The X-Men, Doug has a soft spot when for the Morlocks, and since he felt his first pack didn’t have any real prospects, he chose a first pick Tommy, and everything seemed to fall his way for a Morlocks deck after that.

While Doug was building his deck, we chatted about the deck and why he chose specific cards for it.
“I probably shouldn’t have taken Polaris, Acolyte, as I think Karl was going Brotherhood reservist—one time, I even thought about taking a Rogue, Anna Marie instead. I hate that two of my 5-drops have to be Polaris, but I guess that’s how drafts work,” Doug said, as he laid out his cards and began building his deck. He was able to solidify his deck with a surprising eighth pick Shrapnel Blast in pack 3, one card that he was surprised to see that late in the draft.
I asked Doug how he felt picking The Alley over Callisto, when a copy of The Alley came around in the very next pack. “I had to pick The Alley higher than I wanted to pick it for sure, but it worked out fine. It was really only between The Alley and Callisto, as far as that fourth pick in pack 3. It was unfortunate that a copy of The Alley came around the very next pick, but I needed the Cyclops, Blue Leader in that pack anyways, so it worked out fine,” Doug answered.
Doug has a pretty solid draft deck, with a slew of Morlocks and some X-Men characters. Using the team-ups Mutopia and The Forsaken, he has a good shot at curving out with his characters. Doug definitely solidified himself as one of the Kings of Draft in his first draft pod today.
Doug wanted to cut one more card from the draft deck, but couldn’t figure out what to cut. “I’m choosing between X-Corp: Hong Kong and The Alley . . . Hong Kong is better in an off-curve deck, which is why I’m considering not playing it . . . Ah, let’s play it,” Doug said, as he tossed X-Corp: Hong Kong into the stack for his deck and threw The Alley aside.
“I’m going to set the minimum at 2-1 with this. I could easily 3-0 with it, but I’d be disappointed if I didn’t at least 2-1. I’m sure Adam Bernstein’s deck is pretty good—I’ve got a feeling about it.”
