The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K Sydney 2006
Metagame Staff

The finals are over, and in his second $10K Top 8, Randall Hughes has made the big time by winning $10K Sydney! On his road to meeting Kakarot Turker in the finals, he first met Scott Smith in the quarterfinals. Scott Smith proclaimed that he was going to get smashed by Randall, and that is exactly what happened. Randall then faced James White, who put up a good fight . . . but Randall’s teenaged army overwhelmed the Justice League heroes.

Randall’s final opponent, Kakarot Turker, had a pretty amazing run. In his quarterfinal match, he had to play Andrew Corney. That was actually the best possible matchup for Kakarot’s Child Lock deck, and it ended just like it would on paper—with a 2-0 win. Kakarot followed that with his worst possible matchup in his semifinals match against Lindsay Heming’s Common Enemy deck, but Turker had fortune on his side and Lindsay did not hit Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius in any of his games.

The finals itself was very odd—both players wanted to play in the PCQ, and during the middle of game 1, Kakarot Turker conceded to Randall so that they could play in the Constructed PCQ. Nevertheless, that should not take away from what Randall Hughes accomplished here today. He has a new title, and that is $10K Sydney Champion!

Day 2
Both Randall and Kakarot had no previous experience playing in the finals of a $10K, and yet both of them were very casual about the matter.
This match pits two $10K Top 8 veterans against one another for the final shot at the trophy.
Though both of these players are strong and Karakot has the matchup advantage, Andrew Corney may very well come out ahead because this is his third $10K Top 8 compared to Kakarot’s first.
