While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Sentinels is holding steady at about a quarter of the field, but deck variety is flourishing. Although we haven’t quite gotten to the Top 8 yet, I’ve seen most of these decks in action today, and there are a lot of winning concepts. I think it’s safe to say that the top tier of Golden Age has become extremely broad. Many of the decks in this list aren’t contenders, but there are at least a dozen that have a good shot of making Top 8 and shaping the metagame for Los Angeles. Besides the established decks that have made an appearance today—including the oddly resurgent New Brotherhood and Xavier’s Dream—this tournament also served to debut Thunderbolts and Squadron Supreme. There’s a lot more that can be said about each of these decks and about the impact Orlando will have on LA—but I’ll leave that for the forums. For now, I simply wish the field luck in solving this complicated format.
