We are now about a third of the way through Day 1 of $10K San Diego, and I decided to take a look around the top tables to see what has been doing well so far.As expected, Sentinels and Teen Titans are still powerhouse decks, with six Sentinel decks and four Titans decks at the top eight tables. If you count the two Brave and the Bold decks within the Titan count, then these two teams are neck and neck at the top of the tournament.
Don’t worry, though. There are still some exciting archetypes near the top. One New Brotherhood deck and one Green Lantern/Emerald Enemies deck represent the strength of those two archetypes. Looking around the field, it seems that there still seems to be a lot of disagreement as to the proper build of the popular new willpower-based decks. I can only imagine that over time, this deck will continue to be tuned and take its place as a tier 1 archetype.
Even more amazing are the two remaining decks at the top eight tables.
The first is a Spider-Friends/League of Assassins deck. The deck uses the defensive tricks of Spider-Friends to stall the game until Ra’s al Ghul, The Demon’s Head can shut down the opposition. The combo of the Spider-Friends’ evasion characters with Pit of Madness and Bronze Tiger may be the next big thing in Vs. tournament play.
The final exciting deck in the top eight this round is a deck based around Longshot and Superman Robots. As of the time of posting this, the Superman player locked out his Teen Titans opponent using a combination of multiple copies of Bad Press and Ka-Boom!, while the robots grew bigger and bigger. At 4-0, this deck is sure to get a feature article soon, so stay tuned to Metagame for more updates!
