The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 7: David Bauer vs. Kyle Dembinski
Anand Khare

These players both have four wins, so the winner of this match will probably make Day 2. Kyle is an accomplished member of The Donkey Club. David Bauer is a local player from Miami. He asked me to mention his friend, Ariel Lightbourne, who played in the last Pro Circuit. Ariel died this past week after a long battle with cancer, and our hearts go out to his family and friends in the Vs. System community. We talked a bit about Ariel as the players shuffled up.

Kyle won the die roll and selected the even initiatives. David had Emerald Eye on the first turn to Kyle’s nothing, and on the second turn, Kyle had Ferro Lad to David’s Duela Dent ◊ Harlequin. Kyle stunned Duela with Ferro Lad, and David attacked back. On turn 3, David under-dropped again with Bart Allen ◊ Kid Flash, Heir to the Mantle. Kyle recruited Beast Boy, Party Animal and substituted Dark Lantern into play. In combat, Bart stunned Beast Boy, and David’s other characters attacked directly. David led, 41-39.

Kyle had Cassie Sandsmark ◊ Wonder Girl, Ares’s Chosen for turn 4, while David had Glorith. David set up with all of his characters in the support row—Emerald Eye, Glorith, Duela, and Bart all in a row. In combat, Cassie took down Glorith, and Kyle discarded a card for Glorith’s ability. Dark Lantern traded stuns with Bart, and Beast Boy took down Duela. Bart and Duela were lost in recovery. Kyle now led, 37-31.

Turn 5 was David’s initiative. He recruited Vic Stone ◊ Cyborg, Titans Veteran behind Glorith. Kyle had Tim Drake ◊ Batman, Titans Tomorrow West in front of Beast Boy. He left Cassie in the front row next to Batman. In combat, Glorith went after Cassie. Kyle powered-up, and David played For Khundia! Both characters stunned. Next, Emerald Eye went into Beast Boy with a power-up. Finally, Vic attacked Tim Drake with Hall of Mentors for +6 DEF. The Batman was stunned. In recovery, Cassie was KO’d, and David reestablished a 26-24 lead.

On turn 6, Kyle under-dropped with Darkseid, 8th Century. David recruited Cassie Sandsmark ◊ Wonder Woman, Titans Tomorrow West. He set up with Emerald Eye protecting Glorith and Cassie protecting Vic before passing. Kyle used United Planets HQ to team-up, then sent Darkseid and Beast Boy into Cassie. David allowed the stun, and Kyle replaced Hall of Mentors. Next, Batman stunned Vic Stone. Dark Lantern attacked Glorith with For Khundia! and Furious Assault, resulting in a mutual stun. Kyle passed, and David didn’t have much of a choice except to pass right back. David was left with only Vic and Glorith in recovery. Kyle had the lead, 17-7.

David had Superboy, Yellow Sun Armor for turn 7 and pushed his three characters to the front. Kyle recruited Kara Zor-El ◊ Supergirl, Female Fury, and set up with Kara protecting Darkseid and Batman protecting Beast Boy. The players moved to combat, and David wasted no time sending Cassie into Darkseid. Kyle reinforced and took 5. Next, David sent Superboy into Batman. Kyle had a power-up effect and went to 1. David sent Emerald Eye in to stop breakthrough, but Kyle was still able to attack back through Cassie for enough to clinch the win.
