The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 20: Eugene Harvey vs. Frank Karsten
Victor van den Broek

Eugene won the flip, and the players decided that whoever won also had to take care of the endurance totals on the touch-screen computer, as they saw it as quite the burden. Oh, the life of a professional TCG player is harsh.

No mulligans on either side. Eugene had the odd initiative, which is considered to be a huge advantage in this format.

The first play of the match was a second turn Professor Emil Hamilton for Frank, which went unanswered. Eugene recruited a Superman, Red on his third turn, while Frank only had a Dubbilex and got a peek at Eugene’s hand, which most notably contained a bunch of high drops but no 4-drop. Superman took out the Professor and the players entered the fourth turn.

Frank recruited Superman, Clark Kent while Eugene drew a 4-drop in Fastbak, which protected his Superman. Frank sent his Superman flying towards Eugene’s, but Eugene had a Heat Vision to thwart the Dutchman’s plans. A Super Strength for Frank, removing the cosmic counter, made sure Frank’s character was a little bigger and took down the red Superman. Frank discarded Scorn to put a cosmic counter back on Superman and played Super Speed to ready him and take down Fastbak as well. Eugene flipped over New Genesis to bring back Fastbak.

“That’s insane, ” Frank commented.

“Yup,” said Eugene.

The Dutchman tried to take out Eugene’s Fastbak after all with a team attack of the Professor and Dubbilex, flipping over I Hate Magic! and that marked the end of the fourth turn.

Metron came down for Eugene on turn 5, while Frank recruited Devilance. Metron charged at Superman and Fastbak decided that Dubbilex was a nice little snack. Frank retaliates by attacking Faskbak with Devilance, dropping the endurance totals to 21 for Eugene and 33 for Frank. On turn 6 both players made a John Henry Irons ◊ Steel. Frank sunk into thought, flipping over a Play Time and then hiding it again, before finally deciding to the two Steels should fight. The Dutchman powered-up his and Eugene flipped over a Female Furies to increase the ATK of his and removed the counter to prevent some breakthrough endurance loss. Frank sends his Devilance after Matron, flipping over Path of Destruction and I Hate Magic! and Eugene removed the counter from his New Gods to counter the first, going down to 5 endurance. Frank tried to get an attack in before Eugene recovered his Metron, but it was not to be.

Turn 7 brought Eradicator, Soul of Krypton, It made a double appearance and Frank arranged all of his characters on the support row, while Eugene only protected his Metron with Eradicator. The two Eradicators clashed in battle with an Up, Up, and Away from Eugene, but a simple power-up from Frank was enough to earn him the concession.

Frank wins the match.
