The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 19: John Fiorillo vs. Adam Prosak
Ted Knutson

At this point, Adam Prosak is a well-known star of the Vs. System community, having taken home a number of $10K Top 8s in addition to his Pro Circuit Top 8 in Amsterdam. He stumbled early this weekend, but he has since made quite a charge and stands an outside chance at making the Top 8—provided he can 3-0 his table and get a little luck from other players’ results to boot. John Fiorillo may be a lesser name in the Vs. Community, but he probably has a greater effect on the community as a whole. This TOGIT member is also the editor of the VsUniverse.com website, and he travels all over the country as a TCG Professional in addition to holding down a full-time job as an electrical engineer.

Both players mulliganed their openers, and Prosak led off with Sonar on turn 1, followed by The Shark on turn 2 to Fiorillo’s Jack T. Chance. A concealed Elasti-man was Prosak’s turn 3 recruit, while Fiorillo played Hal Jordan, Green Lantern of Earth. The subsequent attacks left The Shark and Jack in the KO’d pile and the endurance totals 45-43 in favor of Prosak.

Turn 4 went rather well for Fiorillo, as he played Malvolio to Prosak’s Kiman, added a Light Armor to the Emerald Enemy, and then flipped over Prison Planet on his turn, mashing for 10 while only taking 3 in return. Prosak’s initiative for turn 5 gave him Element Man in the hidden area to Fiorillo’s Remoni-Notra ◊ Star Sapphire, but Fiorillo used Element Man’s power to bring all but Kiman into the visible area. Element Man and Elasti-Man teamed up to stun Malvolio, Kiman stunned Remoni Notra, and the turn ended with Hal Jordan and Remoni Notra on Fiorillo’s side of the board; Kiman, Element Man, and Sonar on Prosak’s side; and a 3 endurance advantage (31-28) for the New Jersey native.

Fiorillo recruited first on turn 6 and played Manhunter Lantern, leaving him in the front row, with Hal Jordan at his bank and Remoni on Hal’s wing. Prosak played Grayven, leaving all of his men in the back row. Manhunter Lantern tackled Element Man, but not before his defense was lowered enough for a mutual stun. Prosak used The Ring Has Chosen to search out Krona while Sonar reinforced. Hal Jordan KO’d Sonar courtesy of Remoni’s power, and Remoni finished off the turn by stunning Grayven as well, making the endurance totals Fiorillo 20 – Prosak 16. The turn ended with Hal and the Manhunter Lantern in play for Fioriollo, and Grayven plus Kiman on Prosak’s side of the board.

Prosak recruited the aforementioned Krona as his seven-drop and gave a brief whistle of air when Fiorillo threw down Sinestro, Enemy of the Corps, using him to protect Hal from being banished by Krona.  Prosak chose not to use Krona at all, in fact—he sent the anti-matter creator into Manhunter Lantern and earned a pure stun.  Grayven then went barreling into Sinestro and got a mutual stun with a little help from No Man Escapes the Manhunters. Kiman clattered Hal Jordan and finished Fiorillo off with Qwardian Pincers, keeping Prosak’s dim chance of another Top 8 appearance open.

Prosak 1 – Fiorillo 0
