The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Metagame Staff

Good riddance!  While comprising only 15% of the metagame on Saturday morning, the Doctor Light Show combo deck’s representation in the field kept growing as the weekend progressed.  By the time we cut to Top 8 last night, it was up to fifty percent, then after the quarterfinals it was 75%, until it was finally a full 100% of the decks playing in the finals.  The pilots of those two versions were two of the more successful Vs. System players around in the past month. $10K New York winner Doug Tice dispatched David Hosley and Brent Walker on his way to the finals, while Pro Circuit New York runner-up Jason Hager played extremely well to shrug off both Tillman Bragg and Antonino De Rosa—setting up the Light Show mirror match.  In spite of the fact that they only played two games, the finals took an extensive period of time, as each player took enormously complicated turns in an attempt to out-combo one another.  When the dust had settled, Jason Hager had finally traded in his bridesmaid dress for a trophy and a gown of glowing white, winning $10K Charlotte and taking home his first Vs. System title!

Day 2
“I’m getting used to second place . . . always the bridesmaid,” muttered Hager.
“Jason Hager must be outside saying, ‘I’m so glad that buffoon Antonino won his last match and is playing Curve Sentinels. He gives me so much money when he plays that deck.’”
Tice won game 1 on turn 4. Tice won game 2 on turn 4, same bat time, same bat channel. Looks like Doom wasn’t as scary as it should have been.

Day 1
There were no undefeated players at the end of Day 1, but after nine rounds, a Doctor and a Titan sit at the top of the heap.
Every player I talked to was at least a little worried about facing David Hosley’s League of Assassins/Gamma Doom deck in the Top 8.
Bragg’s attack took down Lacuna, and he Chopped her right out of the game. This further complicated Justice’s combo possibilities.
It’s interesting to note that there was little real innovation at this tournament, while Philadelphia, held earlier this month, was where the format exploded.
“I only have nine team-ups,” Slawny replied. “Yeah, we have eleven.”
It’s interesting that after Pro Circuit New York that the team sporting the purple robots could be considered the good guys, but that’s what Dr. Light and his cronies have done to the metagame.
At the beginning of turn 4, Spears started flashing his hand and resource row at Hager, basically conceding that he had absolutely nothing to stop Jason from going off—provided he had the combo that turn.
The Italian Stallion has two Pro Circuit Top 4s to his name in only four events and was one of the single most successful players in Season 1 of the PC.
Competitors will battle through nine rounds today before a cut to tomorrow’s elimination rounds.
