Round Six Roundup
Michael Pittman

Round 6 saw one of the real bolters of the day. Paul Chalupa and his Unaffiliated Burn deck took on Adrian Capilitan, who refuses to stop playing the Common Enemy deck that put him into the Top 8 of the Sydney $10K. Both players were 5-1 at this point.

Paul was hammering Adrian early, but on turn 4, Flame Trap was chained with Dr Doom, Diabolic Genius’s come-into-play effect to devastate Paul’s board. A Power Compressor on turn 5 made it even harder for Paul, but he was still able to whittle away at Capilitan’s endurance, ending the turn with about a 40 endurance differential.

Adrian’s hand was empty at the start of turn 6, but he lucked out by drawing Hulk and It’s Clobberin’ Time. “Rips!” In the end, only one endurance point separated the two players, which Adrian luckily having his Dr. Doom in the support row when Chalupa flipped Surprise Attack.

In the other important match of the round, New Zealander Shaun Heyward remained undefeated when he avenged his countrymans’ defeat by Alex Brown at the Auckland $10K. Shaun hit almost all of his drops, drew all of his Reconstruction Programs, as well as a Micro-Sentinels which accounted for Alex’s Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal at the start of turn 6.

Alex also failed to draw an all-important Teen Titans Go! in this match, and Heyward won on turn 7 with Magneto, Master of Magnetism. Countryman Ian Kenderdine was quick to point out that “50 percent of all New Zealanders are undefeated!” Ian’s record obviously wasn’t as hot.
