The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K Los Angeles 2006
Metagame Staff

There we have it, ladies and gentleman. After two grueling days of competition, the American pros were able to hold off the foreign invasion and keep the trophy at home. Doug Tice and Tillman Bragg, both from Tennessee, are also best friends, teammates, and two of the better Sealed Pack players our game has to offer. They squared off in a quick and exciting final. Doug Tice put his name in the Vs. System history book, winning his second Sealed Pack $10K. Tillman also has to be content, as this marked his fourth $10K Top 8 appearance in his young VS career.

About a month ago, Dave Spears predicted that all of the American $10Ks this year would be won by a Donkey Club team member. He got it right with San Francisco and now Los Angeles. We just have to sit back and wait until next week for $10K Atlanta!

Congratulations, Doug Tice! Let's hope this trophy looks good next to your New York Trophy!

The Top 8!

Day Two
In an all Volunteer State finals, good friends Tillman Bragg and Doug Tice squared off for the $10K LA title.
Two of the game’s biggest names are about to pummel each other for your reading pleasure: Doug “The Ticeman” Tice vs. Andre “The Mule” Muller. Pull up a chair and refresh the page; here come The Beats!
Tillman believed his to be very solid, and Eric was sure that if he hit all of his drops, he would win.
Tillman was fortunate to squeeze in as the 8th seed on tiebreakers, and he was looking to make the most out of his second lease on life.
Profiles for the Top 8 players!
The master of disaster, Erick “I Barn Vidi’ Cabanero is back again to face the intimidating figure that can only be referred to in hushed tones as “The Eugenio”...
This match also highlighted these players’ preferred Draft archetypes, with Alex sticking to a standard curve and Andre sporting his favored off-curve aggressive strategy...
Dave Spears and his opponent Alex Gellerman are two personalities from our beloved VS Realms. Dave won the roll and took the even initiatives...
The Top 24 is underway, baby! Are you as excited as I am? I doubt it. The players have assembled, the packs have been disseminated, so let's go!
The games continue on Day Two!
Day One
A quick recap of the day one activities.
Besides his $10K win, Garret is most known for being friends with Josh Wiitanen. “Cabarnero” is no joke either as he finished 19th in last year’s PC: LA.
A win here would lock the victor into the second day, while the loser would likely need to win the last round to draft tomorrow.
Alex Gellerman garnered a tenth place finish at PC: Amsterdam, and Quang is a former $10K champion. Alex won the die roll and choose the even initiatives...
With a good showing in his last Sealed pool and a solid history in Draft, a 4-0 or 3-1 in this pod will put Doug in a great position to add his name to the short list of three-time $10K Top 8 finishers.
Both players were sitting pretty with 4-0 records. The road to clinching a Top 8 berth starts here!
Round 4 pitted Alex Brown, who hails from Sydney, Australia, against Albert Won, an up and coming local.
I tried going around the room and asking people some silly questions, along with some PC: Atlanta-related questions added into the mix.
Both players sat at 1-1 and were looking to enter the second Sealed pool with a 3-1 record.
Andre rolled a 1, Alex rolled a 2. A hint of things to come? Alex chose evens, perhaps ensuring the turn 6 win. The players kept their opening hands and play began...
I had an opportunity to sit down with Alex for his first deck build, both to discuss his opinions on the X-Men Sealed Pack format and to watch one of the best in the game tackle a format considered by many to be the most daunting Sealed Pack format yet...
He claimed that with his decent deck and some luck, he should be able to go 4-0, shouting "Yes, I am that good!"
While hanging out between rounds, I got the great idea to ask some interesting questions of some of the more popular players at the $10K!
Welcome to the $10K in Los Angeles!
