The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Deck Profile: Shaun Hayward
Julia Birks

Shaun Hayward sits quite comfortably at 4-0 after Pool 1 of Sealed Pack this $10k. He made a noteworthy appearance at his first Pro Circuit in San Francisco, where he placed 59th after making it through to day 2, and his fine form continues.

“This deck is just silly,” he quiffs, as he starts showing us his curve, and the key combos that make it up.

What archetype does the deck fit into? What’s the central theme?

It’s a curve deck that features a whole lot of high-quality characters from across all teams, and there were plenty of Team-Ups so that was not a worry. It also features a lot of equipment that’s transferable with the assistance of Dr. Fate’s Tower.

Did you score any particularly great cards in your pool?

Apart from the awesome equipment toolbox? Ahmed Samsarra, White King is always good, but I came pretty close to losing courtesy of his King ability. Total luck in that regard, actually! But he’s so good and so beef, in every other aspect. And I was able to get Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal, Knight up to 15ATK sometimes!

What makes the deck? Is there a key combo that goes off?

I got a great line-up that includes Dr. Fate’s Tower, Jaime Reyes ◊ Blue Beetle, High-Tech Hero, an Amulet of Nabu and a Cloak of Nabu as well. It’s just kitted out so well with equips! As if that wasn’t enough, there’s Laser Watch in for good measure. Then there’s also the Brainiac / Huntress, Earth 2 combo as well. Oh, and The Science Spire.

I never used Brainiac’s ability once, though, interestingly enough. It just didn’t come up. Being able to move the equipment is the major advantage, especially on such a solid curve.

What did it beat? What is it strong against?

They were all fairly similar, curve decks, really, with at least 3 teams, but it seems to be quite consistent, which is generally tricky in Sealed Pack format.

And with that, we roll into Pool 2 of Sealed Pack here at the Adelaide $10K, to find out whether Shaun has what it takes to make day 2.
