The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017
While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

After taking the game in round 1, Tze Hong readily explored the subject of Sealed Pack with me. I discovered that while his forte may be Constructed, his theories on Sealed Pack are really quite good, too.
Tze Hong’s Sealed Pool:
2 Anti-Green Lantern 1 Fiero 1 Power Ring 1 St’nlli 1 Xallarap 1 Yokal
2 Dr. Ub’X 1 Hal Jordan, Parallax 1 Hector Hammond 1 Invisible Destroyer 1 Remoni-Notra Star Sapphire 1 Tattooed Man 2 The Shark
1 Abin Sur 1 Alan Scott 1 G’Nort 2 Guy Gardner, Warrior 1 Jack T. Chance 1 Kilowog 1 Kyle Rayner, Green Lantern of the Universe 1 Salakk 1 Tomar Tu
1 Dr. Ebenezer Darrk 1 Sensei
1 Governor Tozad 1 Highmaster 1 Manhunter Giant 1 Manhunter Guardsman 1 Manhunter Infiltrator 2 Mark Shaw 1 Supermanhunter
1 Commander
1 Superman, Returned
1 Ganthet 1 Mouse Trap 1 Space Bears
1 Green Lantern Ring 2 Light Armor 1 Yellow Power Ring
1 Book of Oa 1 House of El 1 Mosaic World 1 S.T.A.R. Labs
1 Apokoliptian Hospitality 1 Banished to the Anti-Matter Universe 1 Battle of Wills 1 Cosmic Conflict 1 Council of Power 1 Darkseid Undenied 2 Force Sphere 1 Helping Hand 1 Locked in Combat 1 Only a Friend Can Betray You 2 Pest Control 1 Qwardian Pincer 1 Recharging the Ring 1 Reciting the Oath 2 Stealing the Light 2 Sweeping Up 1 Uppercut
For Sealed Pack, Tze Hong looks first at which affiliations give him the best characters and if there is a team-up card. After deciding upon his two core affiliations, he looks at the other affiliations for good characters to fill out his curve.
He cites combat pumps as the most powerful plot twists in the format.
Tze Hong’s Deck:
Characters 1 Fiero 1 Power Ring 1 St’nlli 1 Xallarap 2 Dr. Ub’X 1 Hector Hammond 1 Invisible Destroyer 1 Remoni-Notra Star Sapphire 1 Abin Sur 1 Alan Scott 2 Guy Gardner, Warrior 1 Jack T. Chance 1 Kilowog 1 Kyle Rayner, Green Lantern of the Universe 1 Tomar Tu 1 Dr. Ebenezer Darrk 1 Supermanhunter 1 Space Bears
Equipment 2 Light Armor
Locations 1 Mosaic World
Plot Twists 1 Apokoliptian Hospitality 1 Cosmic Conflict 2 Force Sphere 1 Locked in Combat 1 Qwardian Pincer 1 Sweeping Up 1 Uppercut
Tze Hong built his deck around the Green Lantern affiliation that was so abundant in the pool. His deck was essentially Green Lantern and Emerald Enemies, with some other affiliations being splashed to fill out his curve.
He liked his plot twists, in particular the double Light Armor. He couldn’t help gloating about his two removal plot twists, Apokoliptian Hospitality and Sweeping Up, either.
He lamented the fact that he could only run Mosaic World as a team-up, and that he had to run two copies of Force Sphere for reinforcement.
Generally, he felt that his deck was pretty average and is hoping for better in the following Sealed Pack.
For the last game, he took a risk on turn 4 by attacking Goldface with just enough pumps to get his character up to 9 ATK. He was hoping that his opponent would not KO a location since it was still early in the game. He also based his decision on the fact that there are few means of pumping DEF in the current format. He was fortunate to have the two removal plot twists at hand to keep Goldface out of the equation for good.
The other turning point in the game was when Supermanhunter managed to swing in directly for massive endurance loss.
Finally, he commented on his mistake on turn 7, where Dr. Ebenezer Darrk should have been placed in the front row but wasn’t. He forgot that the character did not have range. His play on turn 7 was based on the hope that his opponent would not have the pumps to end it then and there, and that he would manage to reach turn 8. |
