The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Learning Curve Sentinels
Brian-David Marshall

One of the more interesting developments to take place this weekend was the emergence of a new style of Sentinels. Curve Sentinels takes advantage of many of the new Sentinels printed in the most recent set. It can play out robots on every drop of the curve, starting at 2 with the Sentinel Mark III, going up to 6 with Bastion, and topping out at 8 with a boosted Tri-Sentinel.

The deck has performed very well so far today, and after eight rounds, two of its pilots had 7-1 and 6-2 records. The deck is a product of the Realmworx squad, and it recently placed its designer, Patrick Yapjoco, in the finals of a Costa Mesa PCQ. Shane Wendel and David Spears were playing an almost identical version this weekend with only one modification – Combat Protocols were replaced by Savage Beatdowns.

The deck has been bandied about on VsRealms.com, and there were actually a couple of other players today with versions of the deck. In fact, Curve Sentinels outnumbered the Wild Vomit players in this event.

“The deck can go fast with Underground Sentinel Base or curve all the way out with Bastion. Tri-Sentinel burn is usually the sealer,” explained Wendel, who was 7-1 after eight rounds. He did not understand why other players were using Magneto, Master of Magnetism at 7 over Tri-Sentinel.

“I have never played Wild Vomit,” Wendel said. “I think this deck is very flexible. I just wanted to play something not very many people were playing. I hate Titans, and Common Enemy has been around. This deck doesn’t really have any bad match-ups. I lost to The New Brotherhood when I missed a drop, and Spears lost to the same guy. We both missed our 4-drops, and The New Brotherhood just comes out too fast for that to happen.”

Somehow, Wendel had not played a single Common Enemy deck yet today, while Spears was 6-1 versus the game’s most popular deck. “I seem to be playing all the weird decks so far.”

If you are looking for something that can hold the line against Common Enemy, his teammate’s record illustrates that this might be the deck for you.
