The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K New York 2006
Metagame Staff

It’s certainly been quite a day here in New York. 165 competitors were whittled down to twenty-four this morning, eight a few hours ago, and then only one. Yoel Izsak followed up his Top 8 in Atlanta with a victory on the back of his amazing mono-Doom deck.

As always, though, the tournament’s not just about the winner. This weekend, we saw the debut of one of the most artfully-constructed Sealed Pack and Draft formats ever. Whether they were stalling with Galactus or flooding the playing field with Kree, a lot of players had a lot of fun here. Today provided a great preview of what Day 2 of this year’s Pro Circuit LA will look like, and pretty much everyone liked what they saw. Now, all that’s left is for everyone to learn how to draft the set . . . and to break it in Constructed, of course. Some players learn faster than others, though—congratulations to Yoel Izsak, winner of $10K New York!

Day 2
Both of these players have come a long way to get here, plowing through fourteen rounds of Heralds of Galactus Sealed Pack and Draft.
Tillman beat Dan Bridy to get here, and Albert beat Loren Nolen. The winner of this match advances to the finals and a guaranteed $1,500 payout.
After I featured these two in round 3, they somehow snuck through the rest of the tournament without getting a feature match—all the way through to Top 8.
For the top 8 draft, I’ll be covering the best player on the planet, Vidianto Wijaya.
Carl and Christian barely squeaked in at 6-3 yesterday, but they’ve each 2-0’d the third draft pod today. The winner of this match (and of the pod) will most likely make Top 8.
These players, from the second of three pods, both have eight wins. They’ve both won their first match today, and winning a second will probably guarantee a Top 8 berth.
You’ve already seen what Tillman’s deck looks like, but it’s anyone’s guess what Loren is running today. Given the quality of Tillman’s powerhouse, it might be difficult for Loren to pull this one out.
Tillman Bragg, TCG professional and member of TDC, is currently sporting an 8-1 record. He only has to 1-2 the top draft pod to make Top 8, but he’s certainly aiming higher than that.
Day 1
For this round, I am again covering the first table. Yoel is the tournament’s last remaining undefeated player. He’s playing Stephen, who has only a single loss.
David Leader, from Atlanta, is the winner of Pro Circuit Indy 2005. Adam Fears (already featured) is a TDC member from Alabama.
Dan Bridy is a Philly player with a record of good Pro Circuit performances. Yoel is a player from Maryland who has enjoyed some PC success of his own. Both of these players are undefeated going into the sixth round.
This $10K serves as a Sneak Preview for many players who haven’t seen the set before—myself included.
Ten seconds after Vidi sat down, he said, “We did it.”
After the completion of the first five rounds of Sealed Pack, there are six undefeated decks. Here are three of them.
Tom Veevers is from Cherry Hill, and this is his second $10K. Adam Fears, member of TDC, flew all the way from Alabama to compete in this event.
This match pits Vidianto Wijaya, undisputedly the best player in the world, against Zintis May-Krumins, a New Jersey local who is just getting back into the game. Zintis is good, though, and if anyone can take down this powerhouse, he can.
These professional players should be familiar to anyone who keeps up with the Pro Circuit. Bother of them are undefeated going into this round.
This matchup is a local grudge match. Rob Nieves is a Kings Games player who came up with one of the original versions of Rigged Elections, while Felix Dykhne is the manager of Neutral Ground.
Kim led off with a first turn Galan. “That guy’s really good against my deck,” said Stephen.
Gerard is a pro player from New Jersey who has enjoyed some success at the Pro Circuit. He took a break from the game a while ago, though, and is using this $10K as an opportunity to get back into it.
