Nik has been playing other TCGs for a long time, and has only recently begun playing Vs. System. He came to this tournament just to have some fun, and if he made some money, he made some money—but instead he would be helping to create Vs. history. Nik is one of three New Zealanders in the Top 8, and is looking to represent New Zealand.

Scott “CoolZero” Smith
Age: 23
Occupation: Studying to be a teacher

Scott Smith is always a presence at any tournament. He is big, tall, and has a booming voice that can be heard from across the Tasman. If there is anyone that could draft in his sleep, it would be this man. He was the #1 ranked Sealed player in the world for a very long time. He went into PC: LA as the number one-ranked player, and left as the number one-ranked player after coming in a very respectable twentieth place.

Scott “Ssteven” Hunstad
Age: 31
Occupation: Information Technology

Scott Hunstad is the co-owner of website VSParadise, and has made a huge contribution to Australian Vs. At the most recent PC: Amsterdam, he came in an all-conquering fourth place. He also posted a respectable sixteenth-place finish at $10K Melbourne.

Paul “Vanwolfgang” Van Der Werk
Age: 30
Occupation: Information Technology

Paul is the co-owner of VSParadise with Scott Hunstad. Paul has had a poor run of tournaments, even though he has started well at each one. He was 5-1 at PC: Amsterdam until a major choke saw him finish 6-6. Despite choking out of Day 2 of Amsterdam, yesterday he was on the button. With a 7-2 record, he piloted his way into the Top 8 with four other teammates.

Sam “Wukwang” Kwang
Age: 23
Occupation: Support Consultant

Sam Kwang was the top ranked player after day 1. He achieved a blistering record of 8-1, losing only once the whole day, which meant he 3-0’d two of the three Sealed Packs. Sam is from the windy city of Wellington. He won’t be just carrying Wellington pride, though—he has New Zealand Pride on his back.

Alex “Uly” Brown
Age: 23
Occupation: Student/Miser

Alex was surprised about the lack of wins he has had in the sealed format, but no longer. Alex has played well, and is representing his team and country in an effort to take the title to Australia. He was going to draft Underworld if he could, as he just loves Underworld and knows it is also the best team in draft.

James “Kongy” Kong
Age: 21
Occupation: Student, University of New South Wales

Kongy has had many successes in Vs. At the last two $10K events, he has made Top 8, so this makes his third Top 8 at a $10K event. Kongy has never played any other CCGs, so it seems that his success in Vs. is purely skill-based. He started Vs. because he is a huge comic book fan and just loves Marvel Comics, especially the X-Men.

Matthew “T.C” Woodhall
Age: 15
Occupation: High School Student

Matthew is the youngest person in the Top 8, but has had a mean streak in Vs. lately. At the recent PCQs, he has come in second twice, and he won the last PCQ in Auckland. Matthew is part of The First Family, rated one of the best teams in New Zealand, and has have been tearing apart the Auckland scene. He isn’t going to be a pushover and he will represent!
