At the top tables in round 8, three decks stood out as new and fresh approaches to the metagame. You already saw Michael Riboulet’s deck in action in last round’s feature, and his decklist was amongst the undefeated after round 5. His unique blend of Brotherhood and Doom trouble was giving Hans Joachim Hoeh a huge frown as I walked by. But, we’ve already talked about that deck.
So, I bring you news of Dean Shonle and Sam Roads. Roads just gave Richard Edbury a huge headache at table 1, setting up a flurry of A Child Named Valeria, Cosmic Radiation, Garth Tempest and Roy Harper Arsenal, only to fall in some very, very tight last turns when he lost his lone copy of Garth.
He got there on the extremely cool shoulders of Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards and Thinking Outside the Box. Reed lets him set up the last four cards of his deck so that he can always take the best two with Thinking Outside the Box. Very cool.
At table 4, Dean Sohnle tested his equipment deck and came away the winner, still very much in contention for the Top 8. He takes Reed Richards’s passion for gadgets to extreme measures by setting up all kinds of puzzles involving equipment.
