The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 9: Shane Wiggans vs. Adam Prosak
Anand Khare

Adam Prosak and Shane Wiggans are two of the top players in Vs. System today. Adam has more $10K Top 8 finishes than any other player, and Shane finished second in last weekend’s Pro Circuit Atlanta. Both of these players are 5-3 going into the final round; only the winner has any chance of making Top 8. Shane won the die roll and took the odd initiatives. Both players mulliganed.

On turn 1, Artie from Shane faced off against Courtney Ross from Adam. There were no attacks. Adam had Sage, Tessa for the second turn, while Shane missed his 2-drop entirely. Adam got in for 2 points of endurance loss, and that was the turn.

Shane led the third turn with The Beautiful Dreamer. “I’m playing Morlocks,” he quipped. Adam recruited Mastermind as his first visible character. Shane attacked Mastermind with the Dreamer, and Prosak played Power and Wealth for Shaw Industries before letting both characters stun and moving Mastermind to the hidden area. Shane passed, and Adam took down Artie with Sage. Shane lost Artie at the end of the turn, and Adam led 47-44.

On turn 4, Adam had Empath, while Shane had Professor X, Headmaster behind The Beautiful Dreamer. Adam team attacked Courtney and Mastermind into the Dreamer, and Shane dug with two copies of Mutopia before allowing the 3-drops to trade. Adam attacked directly for 3. At the end of the turn, The Beautiful Dreamer was lost, and Adam led 44-34.

Shane had his Emma Frost, Friend or Foe for turn 5. He set her in front of the Professor and passed. Adam recruited Shinobi Shaw in the hidden area and passed back. Before declaring attackers, Shane used Emma to flip down Mutopia and draw another card. He made his only feasible attack, team attacking Emma and the Professor into Empath. Adam allowed it, trading stuns with Emma, and KO’d Empath to flip Power and Wealth face down. A flipped copy of The Hellfire Club moved Shinobi to the visible area, and Shinobi crushed the Professor. Adam declared a substantial direct team attack, and that was the end of combat. Before recovery, Shane played Enemy of my Enemy to fetch Professor X. Next, he discarded that copy of the Professor to another Enemy, getting Exodus. He then removed the copy of the Professor in his KO’d pile with Phoenix Rising to recover his Professor and draw a card. At the end of the turn, Adam led 40-17.

Adam had the initiative on turn 6, and he recruited Magneto, Black Lord. Shane had Jean Grey, Red. Before entering combat, Shane played Eye of the Storm and then flipped it face down with Emma. He played it again, and then moved to Adam’s attacks. Adam sent Shinobi into Emma Frost, and Shane flipped System Failure for no effect. He discarded a card to Jean Grey to replace his entire resource row, and then flipped up two more copies of Eye of the Storm. He then played another Enemy of My Enemy, discarding the Exodus to fetch a power-up. He powered-up, and Adam played Join the Club for another power-up of his own. The Hellfire Club shipped Shinobi to the hidden area and passed back to Shane. He reinforced, and Emma was stunned. Before declaring another attack, Adam stunned Shinobi to stun Professor X. Magneto was then sent after Jean Grey; Shane could only muster a Mind Control. Adam team attacked directly with an Army of One for exactly enough to win.

Adam Prosak wins!
