Table One: Ryan Jones vs. Billy Zonos
Table one saw teammates Ryan Jones and Billy Zonos duke it out in a TNB Blitz mirror match. The game was textbook on both sides, and the sick advantage of having three copies of The New Brotherhood on the field by turn 4 put Ryan Jones way over the top. In a game that would have made Matt Tabak proud, Jones took the match before turn 5 was even seen.
Game Win: Ryan Jones, on turn 4
Table Two: Josh Wiitanen vs Quang Nguyen
While Wiitanen was using his standby, Teen Titans, Quang Nguyen was running an innovative F4/GK Equip build. Hitting his team up and recruiting multiple copies of Batmobile on turn five, Nguyen was set. On turn 6, Connor Kent robbed Nguyen of all of his equips, and Raven kept him locked down on turn 7, but the damage was done and the endurance totals were 23 to 6 in Nguyen’s favor. The game ended on turn 8, as Silver Surfer hit the board and finished off Wiitanen.
Game Win: Quang Nguyen, on turn 8
Table Three: Justin Kho vs. Jamin Messenger
Messenger had found resounding success with his innovative F4/Teen Titans Arsenal Abuse variant, and he headed into the game with the even initiative that he preferred. Justin Kho was playing Curve Sentinels. The game was very tight, and by the end of turn 6, the endurance totals were a tight 16-13.
The momentum would shift on turn 7 though, as Magneto made his presence felt. Messenger would pull out all the stops to pop both Sentinel Mark V and Bastion, but a timely activation of Overload in response to the activation of Garth’s effect to bring back a used Press the Attack saved Magneto. After some failed attempts at an offense from Messenger, the Master of Magnetism swung against an exhausted board and ended the game.
Game Win: Justin Kho, on turn 7
Table Four: Jonathan Tran vs. Brian Eugenio
Tran was playing Curve Sentinels, and Brian Eugenio was using his New Gods/Doom combination. Despite some early momentum from Tran’s side of the table, he missed Bastion on turn 6. Eugenio used a team-up to maintain the board presence he needed to fend off Tran’s plot twists, and on turn 7, he mirrored his game-finishing play from last round—more Betrayal!
A turn 7 Betrayal whacked one of Tran’s characters. Eugenio then used Avalon Space Station to retrieve a fallen Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius and recruit him. Turning the Betrayal face down with Doom’s effect, he’d soon flip it again to make another stun. Magneto was exhausted with Mystical Paralysis, and a team attack against him finished the game!
Game Win: Brian Eugenio, on turn 7
