It has come down to this, the final two players who remain undefeated. The winner here not only gets to keep his boasting rights, but he would also finish Day 1 with a guaranteed Top 8 spot.
Mon chose the odd initiatives, but Arvin opened the game on turn 1 with an Aspiring Pawn that attacked Mon directly and started growing. He played Wesley Dodds ◊ The Sandman on turn 2, and Mon had Weather Wizard. Wesley attacked Weather Wizard for a double stun with help from a flipped Death from Above. The Pawn just kept growing.
On turn 3, Mon recruited The Calculator, Evil Oracle in the concealed area, a move which was mirrored by Arvin. Mon’s Calculator attacked and stunned Arvin’s Wesley Dodds ◊ The Sandman, paving the way for Weather Wizard to attack directly. Arvin’s Calculator attacked the Wizard and Mon powered him up. Arvin returned Wesley to The Calculator’s ability and stunned Weather Wizard. The pawn continued to grow! Mon flipped Leslie Thompkins’s Clinic.
On turn 4, Arvin replayed Wesley Dodds ◊ The Sandman and equipped him with a Knight Armor, then played another Aspiring Pawn. Mon had Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon behind Weather Wizard. Weather Wizard was exhausted to Wesley’s ability and Arvin’s Calculator swung into Weather Wizard. Mon played Knightmare Scenario, and Arvin returned the smaller pawn to avoid being stunned. Deathstroke reinforced, and that was the end of Arvin’s attack. Mon attacked and stunned Wesley with his Calculator and returned his Wizard to pay for No Mercy.
On turn 5, Mon played Roy Harper, Arsenal, while Arvin had Carter Hall ◊ Hawkman. Roy attacked Carter Hall and Arvin used Rann, but Mon had Watch the Birdie! to prevent his own character from stunning. Mon then played Relentless Pursuit on The Calculator and stunned him with Deathstroke the Terminator. Finally, Mon’s Calculator attacked Arvin directly, and Mon used Rann for an extra point of endurance loss. Arvin lost his Calculator and was down to 18 endurance compared to Mon’s 37.
Arvin’s position was dealt another blow when he missed his 6-drop and had to recruit Aspiring Pawn and pay a resource point to give Carter Hall +2 ATK through Death from Above. Mon seemed to have the game firmly in his pocket when he recruited Superman, Earth 2.
Arvin swung Carter into Superman with support from Rann before he looked at the board position and conceded.
