Round 3: Dave King vs. Israel Quiroz

Dave King is a local player from the Chicago area, and Israel Quiroz is a game designer who also writes for Pojo. Today he's playing a Fearsome Five/Doom deck, while King has Teen Titans/Doom, seeking to abuse Boris and Garth together.

Game 1

King played a first turn Boris, and Quiroz had Shimmer on turn two. Quiroz had a Boris of his own, and played Puppet Master.

Quiroz groaned, "This is going to be a really long match."

King played Darkoth, and Quiroz activated Doom's Throne Room and used his characters to keep King's side exhausted. Doomstadt let Quiroz activate Boris, which searched up Reign of Terror. King had no play on turn four, and Quiroz had Dr. Doom. Reign of Terror bounced Darkoth, and Doom attacked Boris. Quiroz continued to develop his board with Robot Destroyer, and the best King could do with his draw was to play Darkoth on turn five, and activated Optitron to search out Superboy. The Underworld Star let Quiroz search out Psimon, and Quiroz's superior board continued to assault King. Flame Trap dealt with Shimmer and Puppet Master, and Quiroz activated Avalon Space Station. King played Superboy, and Quiroz used Faces of Doom to search up the eight drop version. Dr. Light came out on turn six, and Have a Blast! destroyed King's copy of World's Finest. Doom was discarded to get back Psimon, and King was about to play Sub-Mariner until he realized that he didn't control Doom.

"If I had a heart, it would have stopped right there," Quiroz quipped.

King had little to defend against Quiroz's full board, and the game ended when Quiroz drew Mystical Paralysis from Doom’s Throne Room, played it, and followed with the eight drop Dr. Doom.

Game 2

King started with Optitron, and Quiroz played Shimmer. Turn three brought Boris and Puppet Master, and Quiroz had a ridiculous board for turn three. Have a Blast! destroyed Optitron, preventing future activation, and King played Beast Boy on turn three. He had Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius on turn four, which let World's Finest team them up. USS Argus gave him some card search, and Reign of Terror bounced Boris and Puppet Master. Faces of Doom allowed Quiroz to find Dr. Doom, Lord of Latveria, and Marvel Team-Up put Doom and Fearsome Five on the same side for Quiroz. He then replayed Puppet Master and Boris, and King played Tim Drake ◊ Robin, Young Detective. Boris searched up The Underworld Star, which let Quiroz get Dr. Light. King used Faces of Doom to get the Dr. Doom, Victor Von Doom and Quiroz used
