The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 5: Andrew Morris vs. Chris Darmardi
Kieren Otton

Andrew is a fine Adelaide player who arrived Thursday night to get acclimated to the harsh conditions a summer in Sydney can dish out. Chris Darmardi is a Sydney player who made Top 8 at this year’s Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Nationals, and also regularly belts everyone in PCQs. Today he doesn't even have to tell his folks what time he is going to be home! Andrew is playing a heavily-teched Lost in Space deck, and Chris is sporting a fine Inhumans/Heralds deck with a splash of Kree and others thrown in for a bit of extra flavor.

Chris Wins the roll and takes odds.

Turn 1

Darmardi mulligans and Andrew then joins him in the club. Both players draw to 6, and they're off.

Chris drops Lockjaw, Inhuman’s Best Friend to the hidden area, discarding San to search for a San. Andrew’s got nothing but pain.

Andrew: 48

Chris: 50

Turn 2

Andrew plays everybody’s favorite Arkham Inmates chick, Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose, then flips Dr. Fate’s Tower, pitching The Phantom Stranger, Wandering Hero and grabbing the Amulet of Nabu. Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose feels like Elizabeth Taylor as Andrew drops a Helm of Nabu onto her as well, and then passes. Chris plays San, then puts Worldship on top.

Andrew bashes for 4, Chris passes.

Andrew: 48

Chris: 46

Turn 3

Chris plays his third resource like his life depends on it, then drops Tonaja into the hidden area. Andrew plays Dr. Light, Master of Holograms, and realizes the bin is bare. He flips Straight to the Grave for Franklin Richards, Child Prodigy, changes his mind, and then gets Frankie Raye ◊ Nova, Optimistic Youth. Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose and Frankie exhaust for him to get The Phantom Stranger, Wandering Hero back, and Andrew goes into receiving mode.

Chris is very focused. You thought the lifesavers on Baywatch were focused; they got nothing on this kid. Tonaja bashes Dr. Light with the help of a Flying Kick, and Andrew is now a life member of the think tank club and its only turn 3! He KO's Frankie to Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose for a Soul World, brings a Dr. Light from the bin, and powers up. Chris resigns himself to another shift on Huntington beach and they trade. In a very civilized and friendly gesture to each other, they pass and go to turn 4.

Andrew: 39

Chris: 43

Turn 4

Andrew drops Ronan the Accuser, Starforce, who seems to have the dirt on all of Darmardi’s guys. He then flips Slaughter Swamp, bringing back a Phantom Stranger, then activates Dr. Light for Deadshot, Floyd Lawton, plays Frankie for free, exhausts both to bring back the Phantom Stranger, KOs Frankie Raye to Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose for a Dr. Fate’s Tower, and passes to Chris. CD plays another Lockjaw, KO’ing the other one, searching out another Tonaja, and then passes. Andrew then moves all Fate artifacts to Ronan.

Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose and Ronan sock Chris to the head for 14 endurance. Andrew then uses Deadshot on Tonaja, and Chris passes, muttering about how he should have played Arkham . . .

Andrew: 39

Chris: 29

Turn 5

Chris plays Enemy of My Enemy from hand, pitching Tonaja to grab Scarecrow, Fearmonger, which brings a sigh of relief to CD's family and friends. Andrew activates Dr. Light for Frankie Raye ◊ Nova, Optimistic Youth, then Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose and Frankie Raye exhaust to grab The Phantom Stranger back to hand. He plays an Enemy, ditching Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose for Mikado and Mosha, then plays a Scarecrow of his own. Going to combat, Scarecrow shenanigans happen with the result of Andrew’s Crow getting Ronan’s Cosmic counter.

Andrew KO’s Frankie to get Ego the Living Planet with Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose, and Chris goes into bash mode, declaring the Crow into Ronin. They trade for 5 each, with the Crow getting a counter, and Chris passes. Andrew pitches M&M to stun Lockjaw, and then the Crow bashes Chris for 11. Andrew then Swamps a Meltdown away to get the M&M gals back and we head on to turn 6.

Andrew: 34

Chris: 12

Turn 6

It’s Andrew’s initiative and it looks bleak for the young break-dancer. Andrew plays Enemy of My Enemy, pitching M&M to grab Terrax, which can't be good for anyone, except Andrew. He then plays The Ring has Chosen, pitching Deadshot and then using Dr. Light to bring him back into the fray. He then activates Swamp, pitching Frankie Raye, but grabs nothing! Its clinch time for Chris, and so he brings out the mighty Gorilla Grodd.

At the start of combat, more counter shenanigans ensue, leaving Chris' Grodd with a counter. Terrax, armed with the Fate gear, launches into the Crow. Grodd reinforces, and Chris goes to 5. Andrew flips UN Building, teaming Kree, Secret Society and probably something else (Arkham Inmates most likely), but, before he can say it, Chris concedes.

Andrew Morris powers to 5-0!
