The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 10: Liang Woi Lun vs. Hsu-Yeung Chong
Noel Neo

Both players in this match are Malaysians and hail from the city of Kuala Lumpur. They are longtime friends and have frequently drafted together. Both players are tied at 7 point apiece, and the winner of this match would be guaranteed a spot in the Top 8.

Hsu-Yeong won the die roll and wanted the odd initiatives. Both players mulliganed.

Turn 1:

Hsu-Yeong played The Shark, but Woi Lun had Qwardian Watchdog.

Turn 2:

Woi Lun brought Gnaxos into play and he swung for 3 points.

(Woi Lun 50 – Hsu-Yeung 47)

Turn 3:

Hsu-Yeong recruited Hector Hammond and flipped The Ring Has Chosen to search for G’Nort, and then promptly put him on the board. Woi Lun had Elasti-Man, who stood behind the Watchdog. Not having range, Gnaxos stood in front, as well.

The Shark swung into Gnaxos, and Hsu-Yeung flipped up Book of Oa and In Remembrance to grow The Shark’s teeth. Both stunned.

(Woi Lun 47 – Hsu-Yeung 46)

Turn 4:

Woi Lun had no play, while Hsu-Yeung had Invisible Destroyer.

Gnaxos swung into The Shark for a double stun, and Hsu-Yeung flipped No Evil Shall Escape Our Sight so that The Shark could be reinforced. Elasti-Man wrapped himself about G’nort after that. Both players passed on further attacks.

(Woi Lun 45 – Hsu-Yeung 44)

Turn 5:

Hsu-Yeung had no build this time, and Woi Lun had Remoni-Notra.

It looks like this game will be decided by who misses more drops.

The Shark and Invisible Destroyer team attacked into Remoni-Notra, and Woi Lun chose to stun Invisible Destroyer. Hector Hammond exhausted to Sweep Up Remoni-Notra.

Gnaxos attacked The Shark for a double stun. The Shark became fin soup.

(Woi Lun 38 – Hsu-Yeung 38)

Turn 6:

Woi Lun had Sinestro, Lantern in Exile, and Hsu-Yeung flipped Rain of Acorns before recruiting Legion behind Hector Hammond.

Sinestro took on Hector Hammond, and Hsu-Yeung chose not to reinforce. The Legion swung into Elasti-Man.

(Woi Lun 23 – Hsu-Yeung 29)

Turn 7:

Hsu-Yeung activated Book of Oa before recruiting Guy Gardner, Strong Arm of the Corps.

Woi Lun played Azreal in the front row and had the Watchdog and Gnaxos protecting Sinestro and Elasti-Man respectively.

This is the first time all day that I’ve seen the all three drops from the first three turns still in play on turn 7! But things were looking pretty bad for Hsu-Yeung.

Legion swung into Azrael, but Woi Lun had Pest Control. Legion stunned, and Hsu-Yeung took 12 for his efforts. Ouch. Hector Hammond took Gnaxos down, and Woi Lun reinforced him with Elasti-man. Guy Garner then swung into Sinestro for a double stun.

Hsu-Yeung played Apokoliptian Hospitality on Sinestro before allowing Guy Gardner to bite the dust.

(Woi Lun 15 – Hsu-Yeung 12)

Turn 8:

Woi Lun recruited Ultraman in the concealed region, and Hsu-Yeung boosted a Power Ring and played Green Lantern Ring on him.

Gnaxos and Elasti-Man attacked Hector Hammond together, and Hsu-Yeung chose to stun Elasti-Man. Ultraman attacked Power Ring with In Remembrance and Thunderous Onslaught, and the monstrous Power Ring KO’d.

Invisible Destroyer attacked into Gnaxos, and the Watchdog reinforced. Invisible Destroyer got KO’d to pump Legion, and then he attacked the Watchdog to bring Woi Lun down to -1 for the win!

What a close match! The final endurance totals were Hsu-Yeung 1 – Woi Lun -1.

Hsu-Yeung moves on to the Top 8.
