Before anyone had written a decklist or started to sleeve their Golden Age deck for the $10K Sydney event, everyone migrated to the Sydney Games Center (SGC), the mother of Vs. System activity in Sydney. At the SGC the night before the $10K, a team event called State of Origin was on. It’s a new tradition that started at $10K Melbourne 2005.
Nine Teams came to represent their state or country (some came from Australia and some came from New Zealand). This tournament wasn’t about money or any kind of prize, but rather about the sheer pride of winning for your state and of deposing any opponents that sat across from you and your mates. Four rounds of Swiss later, two teams emerged to play on Sunday, including last year’s finalists. Team 1, 2, 3, 4 (NSW), composed of Minga Wong, Scott Hunstad, and Paul Van der Werk, once again made it through to the finals. The other finalists were the Prawn Chips. This team was the only team from South Australia to play, and play they did! The team was comprised of Kakarot Turker, Joshua Hennig, and Joel Lambert. |
