Round 2: Andre Muller vs. Thibault Prebay |

Another feature match, another German. Andre Muller is a TCG veteran who has been playing for years, but he finally broke through the last year or so. He’s part of the team of Hans Joachim Höh that used to crash Dutch and Belgian qualifiers to beat up yours truly on their way to qualifying for another high-profile TCG tournament. Now they’re set their sights on Vs. System, and if Hajo’s successs is any indication, they have a bright future ahead of them. Thibault is on the other end of the spectrum. He only just learned how to play, and is just here to learn and have fun. At least he speaks English, unlike some other Frenchmen I could whine long and hard about.
Andre got the odd initiative and flipped Optitron to get Terra. Thibault just laid a resource and passed on both his first and his second turn, while [im Drake got to taste first blood for Andre. He followed that up with USS Argus and a boosted Dawn Granger ◊ Dove before attacking for 9 against a very passive Thibault. Turn 4 featured another pass for the Frenchmen. Andre was firing on all cylinders with the Terra he got with his Optitron, and swung for another 15. Thibault finally made his first play on turn 5.
“I’m very lucky.” “Maybe next round . . .”
After that not very encouraging exchange, Thibault showed Mr. Fantastic, who got equipped with Unstable Molecules—then again, and again, and again! Thibault also flipped Antarctic Research Base and finally equipped the quite dizzy Mr. Fantastic with Advanced Hardware. Andre simply team attacked with everyone, trying to take down the 22 DEF Fantastic superhero. It worked, and put Thibault at a less than impressive 14 to Andre’s 47.
Turn 6 once again featured a Frenchman in trouble, and Thibault pondered on the best move before recruiting Invisible Woman, The Invisible Girl and equipping her with Advanced Hardware too. Ant Man showed up too, and got a big Flamethrower. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman also got a Fantasticar, and with a Human Torch, Thibault’s build phase finally ended. Andre’s build looked to be a little less flashy as he used Optitron to get Roy Harper ◊ Speedy and tried to KO Invisible Man. It got more interesting, though, as Thibault flipped the obvious A Child Named Valeria and Andre responded with Overload on Ant Man, who got KO’d because of the Flamethrower. The German then used his Terra on the Invisible Woman and flipped another USS Argus before finally letting Valeria resolve. He finished it all up by recruiting Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal. Mr. Fantastic tried to attack, but Roy Harper got very pissed off and stunned it. This caused Thibault to scoop, as he didn’t really have a way to get out of the mulligan-induced mess.
After the match, the two players discussed the matchup, and the end verdict was that Teen Titans is favored by quite a lot even if the Fantastic Fun doesn’t miss all of its drops.
