The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

The dust has settled and our Top 8 has been set. Even though the tournament was played under the shadow of Dr. Light, the top 8 decks are far from boring. This tournament has seen the emergence of two potent Green Lantern/Emerald Enemies decks, run by New Zealander James White and top 8 $10K Melbourne player Andrew Corney. They were able to run a disruptive game against the Dr. Light decks as well as have game against the rest of the field. I know many people who will be rooting for the newcomer come tomorrow morning.

Curve Sentinels has returned to prominence this weekend, with three members of the Top 8 piloting the deck. Early Nguyen, making his third final appearance in as many attempts, is showing himself to be a permanent fixture on the Oceania circuit. Scott Smith has also shown himself to be a master of both Constructed and Limited, with a Top 8 here to go with his final day at $10K Auckland. Kenny Tan is quiet addition to the finals, but his skill with the purple robots spoke louder than any words.

Dr. Light brought two players to the Top 8 of $10K Sydney, with PC: Amsterdam Top 4 finisher Scott Hunstad and Chris Kwan from Brisbane playing the Master of Holograms. Finally, the eight is rounded off by lone Titans player Randall Hughes, who, after three previous Top 20 finishes in $10K events, was finally able to bust through for his first Day 2.

The excitement of the final day is palpable. There’s the potential of a new “green” archetype willing itself to the top, the Light menace taking another title, or maybe an old standby taking the honors. Tune in tomorrow to find out the exciting result!

Day 1
Coming into crunch time, the action on the top tables was reaching a boiling point.
This game was over in a flash, and ended with a frustrated Smith getting up and screaming “I Hate Combo!” at the top of his lungs.
Outside of the established archetypes, some interesting technology was on display.
Some players like to play the most popular deck in the format. On the other hand, some players like to take the path less trodden. This is their story.
The robots represent just under a quarter of the field.
