The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

$10K Los Angeles
Metagame Staff

The 2006 Los Angeles $10K is over and done, and after eight rounds of Sealed Pack and six rounds of Draft, we have a new champion. Alex Bycov piloted his powerful Heralds of Galactus stall deck through what may well have been the most difficult path in the Top 8 bracket. First, he had to take down Tim Batow, who got to the Top 8 by winning his Day 2 pod in the with a 3-0 record. In the semifinals, Shaun Hayward became the second $10K Champion to fall victim to Bycov this weekend.

The finals were probably a perfect summation of the Heralds of Galactus Draft format. Sitting across from Bycov was Alex Gellerman, who had gotten to the finals on the back of a flawless Day 1 finish and an incredibly powerful Kree press deck that he drafted in the Top 8. According to most players, Kree press and Heralds stall are the two most powerful archetypes possible in Heralds Draft, and the final match was nothing if not epic. When the dust cleared, Bycov grasped the trophy and placed $10K Los Angeles 2006 Champion at the top of a previously blank list of accomplishments.

Day 2
Clearly, Gellerman would be looking for revenge here, but with two decks of obscene power, it would be an amazing match to determine who would go home with the trophy.
Norman is on a roll. With no previous successes in Vs. System, he’s made it all the way to the Top 4 this weekend.
Sang Jung is playing here today in spite of scheduling his flight for this afternoon.
Would the man with a reputation for Constructed be able to make his mark on today’s draft?
Shane Wiggans and Ron McClintock are sitting in the final round of Swiss with a lot of pressure on their shoulders.
Alex Gellerman has a number of money finishes to his name but is looking to make his breakout finish here today.
The Top 24 players sat down early Sunday morning wondering whether it was going to be as easy as Lionel Richie and the Commodores claim.
Day 1
Kevin and Phimus are both from Phoenix, AZ, and, with 5-2 records, they both need the win to guarantee a slot in Day 2.
I went around and grabbed a few of the biggest (and loudest) personalities I could find and picked their brains for a few minutes between rounds.
Both players are sporting 5-1 records, so a win here will lock either of them into Day 2 and the draft tables, not to mention a nice check.
This match is a bubble match about two rounds before it will actually be considered “the bubble.”
Shane Wiggans is a writer’s dream — the man literally talks more than anyone else in Vs. System.
The epic battle: Best Deck Ever vs. Worst Deck Ever!
After traveling all the way from the opposite end of the country, these two Florida natives are facing off against each other with nice, shiny, 2-0 records.
I sat down with Yoel when it came time for the Sealed Pack expert to tackle the first pool of the day.
Shane Wiggans told me before the round began that he thought he had received a really solid deck, so, before the menacing lawyer could sit down, I pulled him and his opponent, Terry Dixon, over for a feature match.
