This match pits Scott Hunstad, co-owner of VsParadise and multiple pro-level Top 8 finisher, against Vangel Dzepovski from Sydney. Vangel is well known but has never made the big time. What he does have going for him, however, is that Scott Hunstad has lost the last three feature matches that I have covered!
Vangel chose to take even initiatives.
Turn 1
Paul Ebersol ◊ Fixer, Problem Solver was laid in the front row for Scott. Before Vangel recruited, he discarded Dagger, Child of Light to get Midnight Sons and recruited Alfred Pennyworth. Fixer attacked into Alfred, and the endurance totals were 49-48 to Scott.
Turn 2
Vangel recruited Micro-Chip, then flipped up Midnight Sons so Alfred could fetch a Wild Ride before he got replayed in front of Micro-Chip. Scott had to think a long while, finally getting Fatality, Emerald Assassin when he played Beetle, Armorsmith. Vangel passed his attack. Beetle went after Micro-Chip, but not before he exhausted to Bat-Signal to get Dagger, who in turn got Midnight Sons. Fixer then attacked Alfred for the second turn in succession. The scores were 48-43 in Scott’s favor.
Turn 3
Scott had Speed Demon, Second Chance Speedster in the front row beside Beetle. Vangel recruited Robot Sentry and used Alfred to get Flame Trap before getting another replayed. Alfred yet again got smacked by Fixer once Speed Demon had his way with Robot Sentry. Scott was widening the gap in endurance totals, 47-34.
Turn 4
Vangel had Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius behind Alfred. Scott’s Yellowjacket was boosted, getting Melissa Gold ◊ Screaming Mimi. When that resolved, Scott played Fatality and Dallas Riordan, Mayoral Aide.
Vangel then played Reign of Terror on Fixer, which was successful, and used Alfred to get another Reign of Terror. This time, it targeted Fatality. Scott responded with Null Time Zone on Flame Trap, and Fatality returned to Scott’s hand. Scott drew a card off Dallas before Doom attacked Speed Demon to put the endurance totals at 41-36 in Scott’s favor.
Turn 5
Scott played Fixer and drew out Flame Trap from Vangel. Scott drew a card and then took 4 from Yellowjacket, Dallas, and Beetle. Fatality once again hit the board, along with another Yellowjacket that was boosted to find Beetle. However, it was Joystick that was recruited, as Scott only had 1 point remaining.
Finally, Vangel got a turn and played Glorious Godfrey. Scott played Mega-Blast on Speed Demon and then attempted to attack Godfrey. Vangel tried to stop the attack with Midnight Sons, but Fatality made sure Speed Demon got to attack. Speed Demon then readied and crushed Godfrey. After two copies of The Wrecking Crew on Yellowjacket, Vangel conceded.
Scott Hunstad wins! Now he can only cross his fingers and hope that his tiebreakers are good enough to haul him into the Top 8.
