(2-1 at time of interview)
Ikeda is a long-time TCG pro, and has been the face of Vs. System in Japan for months, as he has made translations of the rules and older card sets available to players before the Avengers set was released in Japanese.
How did you learn about Vs. System? Three months before Marvel Knights was released, American TCG pros were talking about the Vs. System. They said UDE was throwing money at TCG players.
What teams did you choose for your deck? Avengers and Squadron Supreme. I liked the curve for these teams, and I had three Team-Ups to help (two Supreme Sanction, and one Behavior Modification Device). I also have two Airskimmers and two copies of Playroom, so the deck has good synergy.
What was the most challenging aspect of deck construction? Nothing. It was very easy.
Describe the skill level of your opponents. First round, low; second round, high; third round, low. I lost to the skilled player (Itaru Ishida).
What was the most interesting play today? I experienced two interesting plays. The first was when my opponent played Windstorm on his defender—so it did nothing. The other was in the match that I lost. Ishida won the die roll. It was a very close match, lasting until turn 7, when he used both Heinrich Zemo ◊ Baron Zemo and The Wrecking Crew to win.
Who is your favorite Marvel Character? Wolverine.
