Day 1 of the Texas $10k Vs. System shoot-out has come to a close, with eight players advancing to tomorrow’s elimination rounds. When the fighting was over on Day 1, there was only one undefeated player left standing. Sean Poestkoke ran the table with his Common Enemy deck, just like he did at the Waco PCQ last weekend.
David Jafari was playing Alabama Militia, although you know it better as TNB. It’s a throwback Brotherhood deck that forgoes all the Lost City and Avalon Space Station shenanigans of its super-sized siblings. David Spear piloted a Curve Sentinels deck to an 8-2 record, and his teammate Robert Leander was right behind him with Teen Titans.
Joseph Carey chose to play Medium Brotherhood and ended the day in 5th, just ahead of Andrew Yip, who ran Big Brotherhood. This is Yip’s farewell tournament, as he’s starting a job with Upper Deck on Monday. Jerry Cook piloted Common Enemy to seventh place, just ahead of Josh Wiitanen. Wiitanen was playing a Common Enemy deck, dubbed Uncommon Enemy, that was designed to beat the mirror. He faces exactly such a match in the morning, so we’ll soon see if he’s correct.
Tune in tomorrow for the final three rounds!
