Round 10: Vidi Wijaya vs. Chris Tillison
Anand Khare

Both of these players have six wins coming into the final round. The winner of this round is likely to make Top 8, while the loser will probably walk away with nothing. Vidi won the roll and chose odds. The players were very businesslike as they got the game underway. Both players mulliganed.

“I think you win this one. My hand is really bad,” said Vidi. Both players passed turn 1. Chris led off turn 2 with a Boliver Trask, fetching a Sentinel Mark V. Again, Vidi had no play. Vidi’s initiative on turn 3 yielded a Sentinel Mark II, and Chris matched him. Vidi attacked Trask, and Chris flipped over Total Anarchy and Nasty Surprise. Chris’s Boliver was traded for Vidi’s Mark II.

The players had matching Mark Vs on turn 4. Chris beat his into Vidi’s, and Vidi powered up to try to avoid the stun. Chris would have none of it, though, and forced it through with Mega-Blast.

Vidi had the optimal turn 5 play of Nimrod, while Chris could only muster another lowly Mark II. Vidi attacked his Nimrod into Chris’s Mark V and thought a bit about his next play. He passed the attack and used Finishing Move to take care of Chris’s stunned robot.

Chris hit his turn 6 Bastion. Vidi had a somewhat inferior boosted Sentinel Mark V. He put all of his characters in the back row, with Nimrod in the middle, so that they could all be reinforced. Chris team attacked his Mark IIs into the unboosted Mark V, stunning it without a problem. Bastion attacked Nimrod, and Vidi simply reinforced to take nothing. All things considered, this was a fine turn for Vidi—he kept all of his characters, while Chris lost a Mark II. The endurance totals were 37–34 in Chris’s favor.

Both players had Magneto, Master of Magnetism on turn 7. They moved quickly into combat, where Vidi declared a team-attack of Nimrod, boosted Mark V, and unboosted Mark V into Bastion. Chris pumped Magneto four times with the aid of a Reconstruction Program. Eventually, Bastion went down and took Nimrod with him. Vidi cracked two copies of Genosha. He hit pure gold in two copies of Betrayal, stunning Chris’s entire board. Magneto attacked directly with a Savage Beatdown for the win.

Vidi Wijaya wins!
