|
This was the semifinal match that did not happen at $10K Singapore. Benzie had something urgent to attend to last time, and scooped to Keng Yin into the finals.
Benzie won the die roll and opted to go odds. Both players kept their opening hands.
Neither player had plays on the first two turns.
Turn 3: Benzie played the first character of the game, Captain Cold, while Keng Yin brought out Rocket Red #4 and equipped him with Nth Metal. Benzie passed the attack and Keng Yin swung his robot in for a mutual stun. Endurance: Benzie 47, Keng Yin 47.
Turn 4: Keng Yin recruited Batman, Hidden Crusader in the concealed region and Benzie had Poison Ivy, Kiss of Death. Benzie formed with Poison Ivy protecting Captain Cold. In combat, Batman attacked Poison Ivy. Captain Cold reinforced before the plant lady stunned. Rocket Red then attacked the Captain, and Keng Yin flipped Plasma Blast to prevent his robot from being stunned. Benzie chose to let Captain Cold go. Endurance: Benzie 37, Keng Yin 43.
Turn 5: Benzie had Crystal Frost ◊ Killer Frost, Cold-Hearted Killer, and Keng Yin had Scarecrow, Fearmonger. Both players formed with their higher drops behind the lower. Benzie swung Poison Ivy into Rocket Red, and Keng Yin considered his options before activating Rocket Red to pump his DEF. Benzie responded by using Rallying Cry! to force the stun. Next, Crystal Frost attacked Scarecrow with an activation of Gorilla City for the stun and some extra endurance loss. Rocket Red became scrap metal. Endurance: Benzie 37, Keng Yin 35.
Turn 6: Keng Yin recruited Captain Atom and Benzie answered with Metamorpho. Benzie formed in an “L” formation with Poison Ivy beside Metamorpho in the support row, and Crystal Frost protecting Ivy. Keng Yin set Captain Atom behind Scarecrow. Captain Atom attacked Crystal Frost, and Benzie flipped Shake It off and removed 3 cards from his KO’d pile to prevent Captain Atom from readying this turn. Scarecrow then attacked Ivy, and Benzie flipped UN Building to team up JLI, SS and AI. Keng Yin passed the initiative, and Benzie had Metamorpho attack Scarecrow with an activation of Gorilla City for extra damage. Poison Ivy went to the KO’d pile. Endurance: Benzie 24, Keng Yin 29.
Turn 7: Benzie got Captain Marvel out of his resource row, which prompted Keng Yin to exclaim, “WTF! I though you said your deck was lousy.” Keng Yin could only muster an inferior Rama Khan. Benzie formed his two higher drops in front, with Crystal Frost standing behind Metamorpho. Keng Yin had the still exhausted Captain Atom in front and his other two characters in the support row. Scarecrow hid behind the Captain.
At the beginning of the combat phase, Keng Yin lapsed into deep thought before dropping his +1 ATK/+1 DEF counter on Rama Khan. Benzie swung his monstrous Captain Marvel into Khan with a war cry of “Shazam!” Keng Yin flipped Slaughter Swamp and exhausted it to power up the Khan. Benzie countered with Plasma Blast, but Keng Yin was still able to flip The Watchtower for a mutual stun. Benzie still had a last trick up his sleeve, however, and flipped Magnificent Seven to power up his character. Crystal Frost also grabbed the opportunity to prevent Rama Khan from readying that turn. Metamorpho then swung into Scarecrow with another activation of Gorilla City. Keng Yin declined the attack, and opted to lose Rama Khan. Endurance: Benzie 24, Keng Yin 12.
Turn 8: The recruit step stretched for a really long time as Keng Yin considered his available options. Finally, he activated The Watchtower and managed to find Dinah Laurel Lance. He then used Slaughter Swamp to recur Rocket Red #4, and recruited a boosted Booster Gold, Bluejay, and boosted Rocket Red #4. He activating Rocket Red to pump his ATK as the boost effect went on the chain. He formed Booster Gold and Rocket Red behind Captain Atom and Bluejay respectively. Scarecrow was beside Captain Atom.
On Benzie’s end, Remoni-Notra ◊ Star Sapphire, Zamoran Champion and L-Ron hit play. He formed L-Ron and Crystal Frost behind Captain Marvel and Metamorpho respectively. Remoni-Notra stood beside L-Ron.
In the combat phase, Keng Yin team attacked Metamorpho, who became 10 ATK/12 DEF, with both Batman and Bluejay. Benzie KO’d the Magnificent Seven in his resource row with L’Ron’s ability and flipped Sorcerer’s Treasure to replay the plot twist. Keng Yin scooped.
After the game, Keng Yin griped that he had lost because he drew the bad half of his deck. He also had to play a lot of characters in the resource row, as he did not draw his plot twists. The only plot twist he played the entire game was Plasma Blast on turn 4. He also had his team-up, but failed to draw JLI characters. |
