The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Draft 2: Neil Reeves
Antonino De Rosa

Neil Reeves made the Top 8 at PC #1. Since that historic Indianapolis event, he has been one of the more iconic Vs. players. He is considered to be the coolest and toughest Vs. player to walk around the convention center. After 13 rounds, he is sitting pretty with two losses, but he is at a very hard table that includes superstars like Eugene Harvey and David Spears.

The draft’s start was better than any I had ever seen. Neil opened a pack with Call Down The Lightning and Hulk, Gamma Rage. After some thought, he opted for the plot twist. John Tatta first-picked a Faces of Evil, while Eugene Harvey to his left first-picked a Panacea Potion. Neil was in good shape to have a very powerful reservist deck. Neil’s second pick was a Pym Laboratories. Mr. Tatta took a second-pick Melter, while Eugene Harvey stuck to his guns and did not get distracted by the Hulk. Neil’s third pack was full of goodies. He had to choose between Shrink, Call Down The Lightning, and Black Panther. After a lot of thought, he went with the character. Neil’s fourth and fifth picks were what most people would consider first picks. He got an Earth's Mightiest Heroes and a Heroes in Reserve. I couldn't believe my eyes. Either the packs were stacked or Neil was blessed with opponents fighting for different cards to his right. Pick six was where things started to slow down; Neil took a Genis-Vell ◊ Captain Marvel followed by Thermite; Two Worlds; Bulldozer; and Scarlet Witch, Mistress of Chaos Magic. Spectators like Nick Little and Adam Bernstein could not believe how good Neil’s deck would probably end up being.

Neil opened up pack two thinking about an Avengers Mansion or a Wonder Man, but the best card he found was Natasha Romanoff ◊ Black Widow. The second pack was so weak for him that he had to counterdraft a Speed Demon, Second Chance Speedster. His third pick was kinder, giving him a Carol Danvers ◊ Warbird. Fourth pick, he got his second Nighthawk. Shocker, Vibro-Shock Villain, a Haywire, and two Hank Pym ◊ Yellowjacket followed. His last relevant pick of the pack was Hank Pym ◊ Goliath to give him some defensive tricks. I could see Neil disgusted over how unlucky he was pack two, especially given the excellent start in pack one.

Pack three was not kinder to poor Neil. He started with a Captain America, Super Soldier over Dane Whitman ◊ Black Knight. He then took a Repulse Ray with no Avengers or reservists in sight. The best reservist in pack three he found was an Amphibian. Pack four presented the only real decision he had to make in this round of packs. He chose Quicksilver, Mutant Avenger over a second Pym Laboratories. He got a few more plot twists in a Justice, Like Lightning and a second Heroes in Reserve. He found his second Thermite, The Wrecker, and a Lady Punisher to fill out the holes in his curve.

Neil stated, "I really thought I was going to draft the best deck ever."  He followed that up by saying, "The packs were very unjust.”  Nevertheless, he believes that he can get two wins with this deck. We all know how much better Neil is than the competition. Needless to say, with a little luck, I think he can 3-0.

Let’s cheer on Neil as he tries to become the fifth person with two PC Top 8 finishes.
