Silver Age Format Announcement
Justin Gary

Almost two years ago, Vs. System launched with the greatest OP support of any new trading card game in the last decade. Players have competed in Golden Age tournaments around the globe for more than a million dollars in cash and prizes. Nine months ago, the launch of Modern Age gave players a new challenge, forcing them to reevaluate cards and create new strategies for high-level tournaments. We are now proud to announce Silver Age, an exciting new format that will launch with the release of the tenth Vs. expansion, Infinite Crisis.

Here are the facts about the new format:

  • Silver Age will feature the previous two years of Vs. expansions. With our current release schedule, this includes eight sets and any corresponding starter products.
  • Whenever a new set is rotated into Silver Age, a corresponding set will rotate out. For example, when the Vs. set after Infinite Crisis rotates in, Web of Spider-Man will rotate out.
  • The first Pro Circuit to feature Silver Age will be PC: San Francisco in June 2006.
  • Silver Age will join Modern Age and Golden Age as part of our fully supported Organized Play program.

Here is our schedule for the upcoming year:

Pro Circuit                 Date                  Formats

#7 Atlanta               March 2006    Marvel Modern Age (MAV, MXM) Constructed,

DJL Drafts

#8 San Francisco          June 2006       Silver Age (MSM thru DCR) Constructed,

#10 Gen Con So Cal Nov. 2006       Golden Age (all sets thru MHG) Constructed,

                                                MHG Drafts

Why Silver Age?

Silver Age has been in the works for some time now, waiting for Vs. to have enough sets to support it. Many players have been asking for a format like this, and we agree with them that a diversity of formats is essential to the long-term health of the game. Silver Age will allow for an unprecedented combination of innovation and stability. With Silver Age, we can:

  • guarantee that cards will be featured for two years, ensuring that you have plenty of time to play with your favorite deck.
  • create a fresh and evolving format that encourages innovation and allows many currently underplayed cards to have their chance to shine.
  • allow new players to join the game without having to learn every card we’ve ever printed or having to buy some of the hard-to-get cards from the early sets.

We hope that you’re as excited as we are about the new format, and we look forward to seeing the new decks that will emerge. We encourage you to give us feedback about what you think of the new format and about any other things that we can do to make this great game even better.
