Chapman is a founding member of the local Vs. System community who had dominated the Sealed Pack format prior to Keng Yin’s ascension. National Service claimed him last December, and he has had little time to play ever since. Currently at 4-1, Chapman’s performance shows that he has not lost his touch, despite his claims to the contrary. Let’s see what one of Asia’s top Sealed Pack players has to offer:

“A good practice in Sealed Pack is to check for bombs like Two-Face, Split Personality, Appa Ali Apsa, and any potentially game breaking monsters. It’s very easy to play defensively in this format with a whole range of defensive characters like Malvolio, Katma Tui, Ganthet, Krona, and even Mouse Trap. Although the lack of high ATK in these characters is their weakest point, the numerous amount of pump spells in this format make playing defensively viable. There are an estimated six to eight pump spells in the common slot alone. It is not difficult to endure till the eighth or ninth turn if you wish to build your decks that way.
“The lack of playable defensive spells in this format is also very obvious, and apart from Pest Control, all the other defensive twists only offer 1 additional point of toughness. I rarely play them, as they are too easy to play around.
“When constructing a Sealed Deck, I first check out what I have in the Green Lanterns and Emerald Enemies. GL usually makes a big portion of my characters, since most of the characters are quite playable and work well with the willpower theme. The attraction to play EE is cards like Goldface and Empire of Tears, but sometimes they require you to play bad drops to fuel these powerful cards.”

2 No Man Escapes the Manhunters
“The first thing I did was to sift out all the generic plot twist pumps.” He was pleased to see Light Armor, Uppercut, and two copies of No Man Escapes the Manhunters, and they quickly made their way into his deck. The deck looks pretty bad at first glance because the lack of plot twists forced him to run 22 characters. “It’s really a pile, actually, apart from the Sinestro, Solomon Grundy, and perhaps the Azrael.” To ensure he survives to play with his monsters, hitting drops and removing creatures is essential to his survival in the early game. “Chopping Block and Sweeping Up are really, really powerful.”
Even though he 3-0ed the first Sealed Pack, he was grim about his chances for the next four rounds. “I’m just hoping to pilot myself into Day 2. Then we’ll see what we can do from there.”
Well, we hope to see you there, too.
