Community Profile: Bill Hodack
Bill Hodack holds nothing back. An admittedly left-brained player who leaves deck building to others, Hodack’s a guy who will tell you what he sees as the truth, regardless of what you’re hoping to hear. “Vs. System is a game that requires a lot of effort. I played Magic for a long time (He actually played in the second ever M:TG Pro Tour, back in 1997) and trust me, this game is so much more complex. There really are just so many more decisions to make, and I don’t see how you can expect to make the right ones if you don’t put in the time.”
It’s not just talk, either. Playing the Jason Dawson–created Big Brotherhood (BBH), Bill went to the $10K event in Columbus having “ . . . practiced the hell out of the deck and walked in better prepared than everyone else.” The results backed the talk, with the Dallas, Texas native taking home the big prize.
“I don’t want people to think I disrespect the outsider pros. They’re obviously excellent card players who have accomplished a lot, and my confidence doesn’t mean I don’t respect them. It’s just that Vs. System takes so much more practice time to really understand what you’re doing.” Easy to say for someone who does.
What percentage of the game is made up of skill, luck, and knowledge/preparation?
