Jose Florencio Tanhoeco, Jr. is ranked third in the Constructed ratings in Asia. He belongs to Team Anjazz, one of the top teams in the country. He sat down with me before the tournament to run through his deck choice.

 

Metagame: What deck are you playing and why?

 

Jose: I'm playing Honor Among Thieves, because it is consistent and simple to play. A lot of the other decks in the format are very complicated.

Metagame: How do you play this deck?

 

Jose: You need to play fast and furious. Force your opponent up against the wall and don't give him or her time to react.

 

You also need to know what characters are good against certain matchups. For example, Hammerhead is great against concealed decks, as it results in an additional two endurance loss for every character you have.

 

Metagame: Are there favorable or unfavorable matchups for the deck?

 

Jose: It's good against all the decks in the format, though it tends to lose if it reaches the later turns, like 6 and up.

 

Metagame: How do you think you will do today?

 

Jose: I think I will make the Top 8, though the competition is definitely tougher.
