 Illinois is electric this weekend. With the #1 seed Illinois fighting in the final four of the biggest college basketball tournament of the year, the entire state has entered a state of combined euphoria/catatonia. Despite this brutally feverish condition, a strong field has descended upon Pastimes, Chicago’s gaming mega-store, looking for a little fame and a lot of cash.
With Amsterdam looming, many players are looking at this tournament as a tune-up. Mark Slack and Dave Spears are amongst those who showed up for one last test before heading to Europe. $10K champion Tim Batow and four-time $10K Top 8 finisher Josh Wiitanen are here, too, looking for more glory in their apparent area of expertise. These four, along with Matt McLaughlin, have targets on their packs, with TO Alan Hochman promising boosters to anyone who beats them.
