Jogia opened the game with turn 2 Shaligo, and Bravi played exactly the same card on the next turn while Danesh had no play. Finally, on turn 4, they each managed to find a second character. Izaya ◊ Highfather showed up on the Australian’s side, and Bravi recruited Bernadeth.
The Shaligos traded, and Jogia revealed Armagetto to pump Izaya ◊ Highfather. That was enough to bring down Bernadeth. Turn 5 meant Devilance for the Italian and Glorious Godfrey for the Aussie.
Bernadeth swung into Glorious Godfrey, Jogia revealed Back To Back, and Alessandro answered with Path of Destruction. Devilance roared “I Hate Magic!” and rushed at Izaya ◊ Highfather. Both players ended the turn with only their 5-drops.
Danesh juggled through all the characters in his hand and found Orion, True Son of Darkseid. That seemed like a good drop for turn 6. The Italian came back with Big Barda.
Glorious Godfrey got some help and brought down Devilance. Then the big boys fought, with Armagetto pumping Orion up to 18 ATK. Bravi grabbed a piece of paper and did some math. He minimized the damage, but when both characters stunned, he still fell to 8. Jogia was at 17.
That brought us neatly into turn 7, with Bravi having the initiative. While he thought about what to play, Danesh Jogia flashed me Lightray, Solis, telling me to write it down. Alessandro’s turn 7 drop was Kalibak, Unworthy Son but he also had a very cunning Play Time to mess up Jogia’s “I” formation.
It was clear this was the turn that would seal the game. Jogia was ahead on endurance totals, but Alessandro had the initiative. Once again, the Italian grabbed some paper and scribbled like a madman. He seemed unhappy with his options.
He took so long that Jogia asked the judge to come over, even though this was probably the last turn of the game. Then the Italian moved. Kalibak came at Lightray, and Danesh activated it. Alessandro fell to 1.
The Aussie used Female Furies to pump Lightray, losing Orion. He lost 11, falling to 6, but when Kalibak got stunned, Bravi dropped to -13. The 19 point difference was too much for the Italian to overcome.
Danesh Jogia wins.
