Jared Blakemore is from Wellington and came up with a big crew of his mates to try and take the big title. He started playing when DC Origins was released and his favorite team is Gotham Knights. Michael Woodhall is one of the members of the First Family. He hasn’t played for a while because he has been concentrating on his studies but has come out of his shell to play in this big event.
Michael won the die roll and choose to take the odd initiatives.
Turn 1
Boris, Personal servant of Dr. Doom signalled that Michael is playing Common Enemy. Jared had Ted Kord ◊ Blue Beetle which activated to get Booster Gold when Boris attacked.
Turn 2
Jared played out the Booster Gold that he had fetched the turn before and formed up with him behind Blue Beetle. Michael had She-Thing, Sharon Ventura and recruited her behind Boris.
Jared attacked into She-Thing with Booster with some help from Magnificent Seven to get a one-sided battle. Ted then attacked Boris for a mutual stun. Michael took a gamble and kept Boris.
Turn 3
However, Michael’s gamble did not pay off, because he had no play that turn, and drew another Boris! Jared had Shayera Thal ◊ Hawkwoman with an Nth Metal for his recruits. Michael passed the attack and Jared did not hesitate to attack Boris with Hawkwoman. Booster attacked with another Magnificent Seven, this time triggering Hawkwoman’s ally ability to get an Nth Metal. Ted just attacked to the dome. Endurance totals were 48–32 in Jared’s favor.
Turn 4
Things were going bad for Michael and then went to worse when Jared played Null Time Zone naming Reign of Terror. He then played out Katar Hol ◊ Hawkman with Nth Metal and passed the turn. Michael could only muster Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius, flipping up Faces of Doom so it could be flipped back down.
Jared attack with Hawkman into Boris, but Boris fled into Michael’s deck to get Flame Trap. Hawkman attacked into Dr. Doom. Michael tried to hit him with Mystical Paralysis, but was trumped by Bwahahahaha! Dr. Doom stunned and Hawkwoman went to the dome. When the 1- and 2-drops attacked, Michael had Flame Trap ready for them. The endurance totals were 19–45 to Jared and it would seem as though turn 5 would have to be a great . . .no, an amazing turn for Michael to pull back the tide.
Turn 5
Michael had to replace Dr. Doom with Dr. Doom and recruited Boris along with him. Boris straight away fled back into the deck to get Reign of Terror. Jared has the perfect draw and played Fire, Beatriz Dacosta with Nth Metal. Michael didn’t even want to go further and with a chuckle (as he always does) extended the hand.
Jared wins a match that wasn’t even fair. Not only was this a bad matchup for Michael, it didn’t help that he missed drops everywhere.
