Round 8: David Javier vs. Arvin Jesus

Both players are currently at 5-2 and need one last win to secure themselves a spot in Day 2.

Arvin chose the even initiatives and opened the game with the growing Aspiring Pawn. He followed up with Weather Wizard on turn 2, while David flipped Brother I Satellite, discarding Joker and searching for a Black Thorn, which he played in the concealed area. The Pawn continued to grow.

On turn 3, David recruited Arthur Kendrick in the visible area, while Arvin had Wesley Dodds ◊ The Sandman and another Aspiring Pawn. Arthur Kendrick attacked and stunned Weather Wizard, and Black Thorn double-stunned with Wesley Snipes with support from I Still Hate Magic! The bigger Aspiring Pawn attacked Arthur, and Arvin flipped Grand Gesture, returning Weather Wizard. Arthur stunned and the younger Pawn was able to begin his growth. Into recovery, Arvin flipped Leslie Thompkins’s Clinic, and David lost Black Thorn.

Arvin recruited Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon behind Wesley Dodds on turn 4, while David had Elimination Protocol ◊ OMAC Robot behind Arthur. Arvin played Watch the Birdie! targeting Arthur Kendrick, and David was forced to move him beside Elimination Protocol. Arthur exhausted to Wesley’s ability and Arvin attacked Elimination Protocol with Deathstroke. However, David had Threat Neutralized to prevent his character from stunning. Suddenly, it seemed as though the tides had turned.

Arvin continued his assault and had the Pawns team attack and stun Arthur before allowing David’s Elimination Protocol to counter and stun Wesley. Arvin was able to keep his stunned Wesley Dodds around with Leslie Thompkins’s Clinic.

On turn 5, David recruited Annihilation Protocol ◊ OMAC Robot, and Arvin had Mordru. Annihilation Protocol double-stunned against Mordru before being recovered through Arthur KO’ing to Elimination Protocol’s ability. Elimination Protocol then attacked Deathstroke for another double stun. Arvin used his Clinic on Deathstroke and lost Wesley.

Arvin had Dr. Fate, Hector Hall in front of Mordru on turn 6, and David recruited Zatanna, Showstopper behind Annihilation Protocol and gave the OMAC Robot a Laser Watch. When Dr. Fate attacked Elimination Protocol, David teamed up Shadowpact and Checkmate with Forbidden Loyalties and put a token on Zatanna before using Zatanna to reinforce. Arvin then had the rest of his characters team attack into Elimination Protocol. David chose to stun Mordru. Arvin used the Clinic on Mordru and recovered Deathstroke, while David lost Elimination Protocol. At this point, Arvin was at 18 endurance and David was at 5.

David’s Power Girl, Earth 2 and Arvin’s Rose Psychic and Dr. Occult hit play on turn 7. Arvin formed with all characters in front save for Dr. Fate behind Dr. Occult. Annihilation Protocol attacked Dr. Fate for a double stun, and Power Girl, Earth 2 tried to run Dr. Occult over, but Arvin had the Defend Yourself! to force a double stun. Zatanna then attacked Deathstroke, and David played Target Acquired, exhausting Checkmate Safe House and Brother I Satellite.

Once the dust settled, Arvin was at -14 endurance and David was at -10. However, Arvin was able to recover 7 endurance through Rose Psychic and Leslie Thompkins’s Clinic, returning him to -7 endurance and winning him the game!
