Round 19 Feature Match: Billy Postlethwait vs. Matt Oldaker
Nate Price

This is it, ladies and gentlemen. This match is for all the marbles. The winner of this "no holds barred" cage match would win the right to be considered for Top 8. Billy Postal . . . Postletwe . . . Postlethwait is squaring off against Matt "The London Gentleman" Oldaker. Both players are neck and neck in the standings, and everything is riding on this match. They shuffled up and prepared themselves for their most important match of the weekend.

Matt won the die roll and chose to go first.

After looking down at a hand that contained a 1-, 5-, and 7-drop, Matt decided that it was worth a shot and recruited Gypsy on turn 1. Billy didn't have a corresponding play and took the 1 endurance loss like the man he is. Turn 2 brought Billy Elongated Man, and Kelex for Matt. Billy took his initiative and sent into Kelex for the stun. Matt's turn 3 Joseph Jones ◊ General Glory continued a stellar draw that didn't initially contain a 2- or 3-drop. Unfortunately for Billy, he was doomed to under-drop Catherine Cobert, which wasn't going to put up too much resistance for Matt's curved out army. General Glory began the charge into Elongated Man, who couldn't get out of the way in time. Poor Catherine was next, and was beaten mercilessly by Kelex. Gypsy, as always, was the last attacker to go through and got to spend some quality time with the side of Billy's head.

Turn 4 saw a return to normality featuring Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary, "Pretty Bird" for Billy and Katar Hol ◊ Hawkman for Matt. Before he passed the attack to Billy, Matt continued his perfect draw and used World's Greatest Heroes to team up JLI and JLA. Billy's only attack was sending Pretty Bird into Kelex. After the robot stunned, Mr. P passed the turn. Matt sent his Hawkman into Elongated Man, which prompted Roll Call! from Billy. When he didn't find anything of note, he let his character stun. Since none of his other attacks were worth making, he simply passed his turn.

Turn 5 found Matt a hot little number in Ms. Beatriz DaCosta, aka Fire. Not one to be outdone, Billy P played his own Fire. Matt attacked his Fire into Billy's Pretty Bird, which ended up on the positive end of Counterstrike. It was good enough for the stun back, and a counter. Matt then sent everyone but Gypsy at Billy's Fire. He used Safety in Numbers to ready his Hawkman and prevent him from stunning on the attack. Thanks to General Glory, the hottest card on Billy's side ended up in the KO'd pile. Hawkman then got a second go at one of Billy's characters, and this time he chose Elongated Man. Billy flipped up The Castle to prevent a bit of breakthrough and let Matt finish the turn. Matt's lone Gypsy remained to get close and personal with Billy. At the end of the turn, Billy was down to just a Pretty Big Bird and a mere 16 endurance to Matt's 30.

Billy led off turn 6 with Gorilla Grodd, which prompted an "ech" from Oldaker. Oldaker recruited Captain Atom on his turn, which immediately prompted a scoop from Billy. He was far too behind to catch up, even with Gorilla Grodd on the table. He realized this and decided not to play it out. It's really unfortunate that a bubble match had to go down like this, but you have to take the good with the bad in this world. Upon finding out that Oldaker was a near cinch for Top 8, Nick Little, one of Oldaker's teammates, let out a booming, "We did it!" They sure did, but we still have to wait to see if Matt's tiebreakers will have him playing tomorrow.
