The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Round 3: Adam Horvath vs. Vidi Wijaya
Anand Khare

This match pits two of the most recognizable names in the game against one another. Adam Horvath, the Martian Manhunter, has a Pro Circuit win and a second place $10K finish to his name. Vidianto Wijaya has multiple Pro Circuit Top 8 finishes and is a fixture in competitive Vs. play.

Vidi won the die roll and chose to take the odd initiatives. Vidi mulliganed, while Adam kept his hand. Vidi had turn 1 Gypsy, and Adam had no play. On turn 2, Adam had Maxwell Lord, and he discarded John Stewart, Emerald Architect to search for Justice League Task Force. Vidi recruited Red Tornado and passed. Adam had no attacks, Vidi took down Maxwell with a team-attack, and that was the turn

On turn 3, Vidi recruited Shayera Thal ◊ Hawkwoman in front of Red Tornado. Adam had Aquaman, Arthur Curry in the front row next to Maxwell. Vidi attacked Red Tornado into Maxwell and powered-up with Gypsy to force the stun. His second attack brought Shayera into Aquaman. An activation of Reform the League, discarding Gypsy, simultaneously made Shayera larger and Aquaman smaller. Shayera’s ally power fetched up Katar Hol ◊ Hawkman, and Adam had nothing to stop the attack. Vidi had an endurance lead of 46–40.

Turn 4 was Adam’s initiative, and he brought out Kimiyo Hoshi ◊ Dr. Light behind Aquaman. Vidi recruited the Katar Hol that he had searched for the previous turn and set him behind Shayera Thal. Red Tornado was set next to Katar in the support row. Adam attacked Aquaman into Red Tornado, and Vidi didn’t have anything in the way of tricks. Kimiyo went after Shayera, but this time Vidi used Reform the League to power-up. Shayera’s ally power triggered, and Vidi searched for Quadromobile. Katar’s ability also triggered, and Shayera got +2 ATK. This was enough to force the mutual stun, and both characters went down. Adam had nothing left to attack with, so Vidi sent Katar into Aquaman. Adam powered-up to prevent a point of endurance loss and lost Aquaman at the end of the turn. Vidi lost Red Tornado, choosing to return it to his hand rather than KO it. Vidi maintained his lead, now widened to 38–31.

Vidi wasted no time on his fifth turn in recruiting Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz in the support row of his hidden area. He left Shayera protecting Katar and passed to Adam’s recruit. Adam brought out Darkseid, Heart of Darkness next to Kimiyo in the support row. Vidi attacked Martian Manhunter into Kimiyo. Adam teamed up JLI and Secret Society with Justice League Task Force and simply reinforced with Darkseid before allowing the stun. Vidi’s next attack brought Katar into Darkseid; Reform the League and his ally power allowed the trade. Shayera attacked directly, and that was the turn. Adam lost Kimiyo, and Vidi’s lead was now a commanding 34–16.

Adam went into the tank before recruiting a character on turn 6. Eventually, he opted to play Captain Atom, Nathaniel Adam in front of Darkseid. Vidi brought out Gorilla Grodd and equipped Katar with Quadromobile. Katar was set between Vidi’s other two visible characters in the support row, and Vidi passed. Adam again went deep into the tank to consider his attacks. He finally chose to send Darkseid into Gorilla Grodd. A Gorilla City provided the last point of ATK Adam needed to take the big ape down, and both characters stunned. Adam’s next attack brought Captain Atom into Shayera. Vidi allowed the attack, then paid 2 endurance to move Martian Manhunter to his visible area, reinforcing Shayera. The attack resolved and Shayera went down. Katar Hol attacked Captain Atom, and a power-up boosted him to 13 ATK. Adam knew he was done for and conceded.

Vidianto Wijaya wins!
