The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017
While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

It was a solemn group I encountered as I approached the table for the final pod of the event. Each player was lost in his own thoughts as he considered his plans for the draft.
Surprisingly, all three countries were still in contention. Malaysia made up half the top 8, with Vincent Chan, $10K Kuala Lumpur 2004 champion, and Ong Tze Hong, $10K Manila semifinalist, being amongst the more recognizable players. Singapore had 3 players, including Jonathan Koe, whose finishes include a PC LA 2004 Constructed Top 8 and a semifinal finish at $10K Kuala Lumpur 2004. The Philippines was also was represented by Emmanuel Nepomuceno.
As before, I’ve listed the cards Jonathan considered for each pack. Those he chose for his pool are on the left.

Jonathan likes to draft IG because it is usually under-drafted and very powerful if you get the right cards. JLI was more or less happenstance of having being passed good JLI characters.
At the beginning of the second pack, Jonathan was still unsure of his draft, but he managed to first pick Katar Hol and was reasonably confident of JLI Embassy’s return. This set him in the direction of the JLI 4-resource archetype.
His card pool was as follows:
Jonathan’s Booster Draft Pool
Lex Luthor, Nefarious Philanthropist Sam Scudder ◊ Mirror Master Shadow-Thief
Elongated Man Hal Jordan, Hard-Traveling Hero John Henry Irons ◊ Steel 2 Katar Hol ◊ Hawkman Zauriel
Booster Gold Catherine Cobert 2 Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary, Blonde Bombshell Joseph Jones ◊ General Glory 2 Kimiyo Hoshi ◊ Dr. Light L-Ron 2 Maxwell Lord Oberon Scott Free ◊ Mister Miracle, Man of a Thousand Escapes Silver Sorceress Sue Dibny
Professor Ivo
High-Tech Flare Gun Mobius Chair
2 JLI Embassy Royal Egg-Matrix Slaughter Swamp
Air Strike Criminal Mastermind Death Times Five 2 Disband the League Funeral For A Friend Hero’s Welcome Justice League Task Force Safety in Numbers Shake it Off World’s Greatest Heroes
In his pool, most of the effects of his cards are only maximized when he has four resources. Hence he capped the cost of his characters at 5.
This was the deck he built:
Jonathan’s Deck
Elongated Man John Henry Irons ◊ Steel 2 Katar Hol ◊ Hawkman Zauriel
Booster Gold Catherine Cobert 2 Dinah Laurel Lance ◊ Black Canary Blonde Bombshell Joseph Jones ◊ General Glory 2 Kimiyo Hoshi ◊ Dr. Light L-Ron 2 Maxwell Lord Oberon Scott Free ◊ Mister Miracle, Man of a Thousand Escapes Silver Sorceress Sue Dibny
High-Tech Flare Gun Mobius Chair
2 JLI Embassy
Air Strike Disband the League Hero’s Welcome Justice League Task Force Safety in Numbers Shake it Off World’s Greatest Heroes
Jonathan explained that the concept behind the deck is to attack aggressively and keep the resource count at four. It is also crucial to maintain board advantage using KO effects like Joseph Jones and recovery effects like JLI Embassy.
Jonathan further elaborated that players should go evens with the deck, as it aims to kill on turn 6. |
