Round 4: Rob Dougherty vs. Adam Prosak
Patrick Sullivan

Two high-profile Vs. stars faced off in the undefeated bracket during round 4. Rob Dougherty is the leader of the famous TCG team Your Move Games and also owns a store in Boston with the same name. Adam Prosak is a $10K superstar and inventor of the 100-card singleton format. Rob is gunning for some quick kills with his aggressive Quicksilver deck, while Adam is fumbling around with Devil’s Due and various free characters.

Rob won the roll for initiative and took the odds. Both players kept their opening four. Rob started with Lockjaw, Inhuman’s Best Friend and chose not to find anything. Adam had a good response in Roy Harper ◊ Speedy, and Rob got in for 2. Prosak had Poison Ivy, Deadly Rose and Haywire on the second turn, and then used Straight to the Grave to find Dr. Doom, Richards’s Rival. He flipped Slaughter Swamp and discarded The Phantom Stranger, Wandering Hero to get Doom out of the KO’d pile, and then exhausted his two smaller characters to bring the Stranger back as well. Rob used Lockjaw to Tech Upgrade for Cloak of Nabu, then recruited Quicksilver and suited him up with the Cloak and Amulet of Nabu. Roy shot down Lockjaw, and Adam KO’d Haywire to Poison Ivy to find Avalon Space Station. Rob attacked twice with Quicksilver, flipping The Great Refuge to find another Quicksilver to get his row up.

On turn 3, Rob flipped Dr. Fate’s Tower to find the missing piece of the Fate set, suited up Quicksilver, and recruited another Lockjaw, again choosing not to search. Adam then Swamped back his Haywire, recruited him again, and used him and Poison Ivy to get back Phantom Stranger. He then recruited Dr. Doom, finding Mutant of the Year. Rob sent Quicksilver after Ivy, stunning her, and then readied Quicky to send him after Doom. Adam KO’d the remainder of his guys to Devil’s Due to make Doom a bit larger. Lockjaw then got in directly.

Adam started off by using the Space Station to get back Haywire, recruiting him and Deadshot, Floyd Lawton, and using them both to get back Phantom Stranger. He also added a threatening Boris, Personal Servant of Dr. Doom to his side of the board. Rob simply recruited Dewoz and moved the Fate package onto him. Adam went to attack, but Rob shipped Dewoz and Quicksilver over to the hidden area, leaving only Lockjaw visible for Doom to attack. Rob tried to make attacks back on the smaller guys, but Adam KO’d them to his ever-growing Doom. Dewoz was left stunning Doom, and Quicksilver got in directly for 3 after Adam found Flame Trap with Boris.

On the fifth turn, Rob used Wild Ride to find Moon Knight and recruited him, moving the Fate package onto him. Adam went through a complex sequence of plays, KO’ing his free characters to Doom and returning them with Avalon effects, which eventually left him with nothing but a Boris and a 17 ATK/16 DEF Doom in play. Boris fetched Enemy of My Enemy, and Adam fired off his Flame Trap. Moon Knight was able to take down Doom with the help of a Mega-Blast, and Dewoz attacked directly.

While Adam was very low on endurance, he looked as though he would at least survive turn 6, thanks to his massive Doom and a newly-recruited Mephisto. Rob, however, was able to burn him out with his Quicksilver, suited up with a Flamethrower, and Human Torch, Sparky. Dewoz was ready for some emergency reinforcement, but Adam couldn’t even get Rob low enough to make that an issue.

Rob wins and moves to a 4-0 record!
