Round 10: Nick Little vs. Vince Greco
Michael Palmer

Vince Greco is on quite a roll—with a record of 8-1 after Day 1, he looks confident he can make it to the Top 8 of this weekend’s event. Nick Little, who had one of the most interesting Sealed decks in the field yesterday, is here today to finish the job with his Draft skills.

Vince had the initiative on turn 1 and recruited The Calculator, Noah Kuttler. Nick had no recruit for turn 1 and therefore took 1 to the face from The Calculator.

Turn 2 saw Nick recruit Deadshot, Dead Aim in the hidden area before Vince recruited Black Thorn in the hidden area. Nick attacked with Deadshot into The Calculator, and Vince then attacked with Black Thorn directly.

Vince didn’t have a recruit for turn 3 but flipped Coercion to team-up Villains United and Checkmate. Nick recruited Arthur Kendrick. Vince attacked in directly with The Calculator, Noah Kuttler and passed to Nick’s attack step. Nick attacked with Arthur Kendrick on The Calculator, Noah Kuttler and then directly with Deadshot, Dead Aim.

Nick recruited Charles McNider ◊ Dr. Mid-Nite on turn 4, still having all his characters hidden. Vince recruited Harry Stein in the front row protecting The Calculator, Noah Kuttler and passed back to Nick’s attack step. Nick attacked with Dr. Mid-Nite on Harry Stein and played Threat Neutralized. Vince responded with Knightmare Scenario, exhausting Checkmate Armory to give Stein +2 ATK / +2 DEF; this caused a mutual stun. Nick then smashed into The Calculator, Noah Kuttler with Arthur Kendrick, and then Deadshot, Dead Aim attacked directly. Vince attacked with Black Thorn directly, and play moved to the next turn.

Vince recruited Cheshire on turn 5, while Nick recruited Hourman III ◊ Hourman in his support row. Vince attacked Hourman with Harry Stein for 8 ATK total, and Nick used Hourman’s effect to make him an 11 ATK / 11 DEF. Vince responded with Target Acquired, exhausting Rook Control and Checkmate Armory in his resource row to give his Harry Stein +4 ATK. Nick resolved the attack and took 5 endurance loss to Vince’s 4 endurance loss. Vince ended by attacking directly into Nick with Cheshire for 8 ATK.

“I don’t have my 6,” Nick said as he eyed his hand and resources.

“You only run one?” Vince asked with a smug look on his face.

 “Yeah,” Nick responded back.

“Well I run two, and guess what?”  Vince said as he stared at his hand.

“You didn’t hit yours either?”  Nick responded with a laugh.

Nick recruited Stargirl and Sand and then passed to Vince’s recruit. “I think you’re going to like this,” Vince said as he recruited both Surveillance Pawn and Ahmed Samsarra, then activated Checkmate Armory to search for Knight Armor. “But wait . . . there’s more!” Vince said with excitement as he activated Black Thorn to use Checkmate Armory again. He searched out another Knight Armor and equipped the Armors to Cheshire and Harry Stein.

Nick flipped Forbidden Loyalties to team-up his characters and then thought about his attacks. He announced Stargirl, Charles McNider ◊ Dr. Mid-Nite, and Deadshot, Dead Aim into Cheshire. Vince resolved the attack and lost 5 endurance to Nick’s 4 endurance. Nick then announced Hourman III ◊ Hourman into Harry Stein, using his effect to make him an 11 ATK / 11 DEF, and passed to Vince’s 9 ATK / 10 DEF Harry Stein. Stein was stunned, and Vince took 4 endurance loss from the attack. Finally, Nick announced a direct team attack with Arthur Kendrick and Sand. After Nick’s attacks, each player had 13 endurance. Vince chose to activate Ahmed Samsarra to search for Brother Eye and played it in his resource row in place of Target Acquired. Vince then played No Mercy to KO Charles McNider ◊ Dr. Mid-Nite, and then play moved to the recovery phase.

“I missed 7 as well as 6,” said Vince as he thought about his recruit for this turn. Nick showed a copy of Sasha Bordeaux, Autonomous Prototype in his hand in response. Vince recruited Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon and Graziella Reza. Nick played a resource and recruited Sasha Bordeaux, Autonomous Prototype. Vince activated Surveillance Pawn before combat and then attacked with Cheshire

into Sand, stunning the latter. Vince then attacked with Graziella Reza into Stargirl and exhausted Checkmate Armory to give Graziella Reza +1 ATK, and both characters became stunned. “I can’t seem to get to 16 ATK here,” said Vince. “I can only get up to 15. This is ridiculous!” Vince announced Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon and Black Thorn into Sasha Bordeaux. Before passing, he activated Brother Eye to add +3 ATK, activated Ahmed Samsarra to KO it and search for another Brother Eye, and activated that to grant another +3 ATK. Nick responded with Secret Checkmate HQ to give his characters +2 ATK. The attack resolved with Sasha Bordeaux, Autonomous Prototype and Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon stunning. Vince passed to Nick’s attack, and Nick announced Hourman III ◊ Hourman as a 13 ATK / 11 DEF into Cheshire. Then Nick announced Charles McNider ◊ Dr. Mid-Nite directly, but Vince responded with Rook Control to bring Ahmed Samsarra into the visible area so Nick would have to attack him instead. Nick did, and Vince said, “Yeah, that’ll do it. That’s game.”

Winner: Nick Little
